A very happy Lunar New Year to you!

I was immediately taken with this lipstick when I saw the case on an Instagram feed. Look what Givenchy whipped up for Lunar New Year! Alas, I waited too long to order this and it was sold out in many places. Usually I phone counters in NYC so I gave that a go, but no luck.

I looked all over Paris, and each counter directed me to another location. After four attempts, I gave up.

I'm ashamed to admit that I ended up purchasing this lipstick above retail on eBay. I usually don't even like paying retail (not even luxury beauty items! There's always a code or a deal to be had) for cosmetics, so it wounded me greatly to pay more than asking price.

The red case, with pewter filigree is just something. I like that it's not straight up gold as many LNY decorations go. I like the heft of Givenchy lipstick bullets. I like a lot of things about Givenchy lipsticks: the smooth application, the light scent, the lip hugging abilities that keep them from transferring to my Invisalign. Last year my most worn lipstick was a Givenchy, so I'm hoping to get a lot of mileage out of this one.

The color of 305 Rouge Egerie is a dark coral. I think it's fairly neutral in undertone, but there is enough blue that my teeth don't look super yellow. It's a little more glossy than satin, and very moisturizing in feel. It can be blotted down to a beautiful cool coral tint.

Not pleased with the means it took to get my grubby hands on this lipstick, but I'm happy to have it.

This edition is pretty much sold out everywhere, but the regular black leather cased Rouge Egerie lipstick is $37 at Sephora. Edit: now that the new year is upon us, there are sellers on eBay that have this lipstick for ~$55.

Have you every paid more than retail for a highly sought after makeup item?

Wishing you a wonderful new year, good health, and happiness!
