A Few KBShimmer Early Summer 2014 Holos

Thursday, May 29, 2014

Good evening! Tonight I have a few of the Summer 2014 KBShimmer shades. Summer is pretty much the perfect season to wear holos (unless you live in a sun saturated state like I do, in which case HOLOS ALL DAY, EVERY DAY). I'll be showing you three of the five holos that are now available.

Eye Look #1: Monochromatic Gradient

Wednesday, May 28, 2014
Good evening!
So I know I post a lot of EOTDs but unfortunately I'm seldom able to make tutorials or placement diagrams just because of the sheer amount of work involved. Since I actually usually apply my eye makeup in a rather formulaic approach, I thought I'd start a series of some sort where I explain each one thoroughly and can just refer to these posts in the future. Today I wanted to start with perhaps the most basic of all eye looks that involve more than one eye shadow: the monochromatic gradient. That's a rather complex name for what in short is a single color applied so that it is darkest near the lash line and lightest near the brow.

Tardis in Space Nails

Hi folks! I've had a crazy few days since I last posted (birthday, emergency vet trip, jury duty) but this is what has been on my fingers during that time.

Favorite Blending Shades

Sunday, May 25, 2014
 Good evening!

Today's post is actually a result of a conversation that I had with Anneke yesterday about great transition shades that blend out nicely. I started pulling them out and looked at the lot of my favorites and figured it would make a good post.

Perfume Diary: Hermes Eau des Merveilles Eau de Toilette

Saturday, May 24, 2014

Lately I've been a tad preoccupied with expanding my fragrance wardrobe. Part of it has to do with being bed bound a lot, I might not wear makeup most days but I can still spritz on a new scent and sniff at myself contently while utterly exhausting my Netflix queue. I've been fascinated with fragrances with salty notes, so Hermes Eau des Merveilles seemed like a good choice because hey, there's got to be a reason why it's popular, right?

EOTD: Wearing ALL the Colors

Wednesday, May 21, 2014
I decided that I wanted a ton of color today on the lids. Instead of bright, pure shades though, I decided on muted tertiary colors. I also picked today to play with inner corner lid space. Was I going anywhere cool and edgy? Nope, I don't have anywhere amazing to be, just a trip to the doctor and Home Depot. Exciting life, I lead.

KBShimmer Summer 2014 Textured Shades

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

Good morning!

I'm excited to show you three new KBShimmer Summer 2014 shades that will be available for sale starting this Friday. The summer polishes include beautiful holos, stunning bright cremes but perhaps most exciting - textured jelly glitters.

Perfume Diary: Atelier Bois Blonds Cologne Absolute

Some people ride motorcycles. Some people hang out in cages underwater with sharks. My idea of living dangerously is much more mild; on occasion I find myself buying a perfume blind. Er, unsniffed. Throw in some great decision making made after 2 AM and that's how I ended up with Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds.

Arcane Lacquer Redefine Collection

Monday, May 19, 2014

Hello!

Today I have some swatches of new Arcane Lacquer shades. Out of all the indie brands out there, I think Arcane Lacquer best utilizes super fine flakes, fine sparkle and small glitter. The Redefine Collection consists of four shades that are filled with micro flakes that flash different colors. The names are: Echo, Just A Phase, Oil & Water and Make A Move.

The Ultimate Tulip Brush: Hakuhodo B103BkSL

Friday, May 16, 2014

For quite a few months now, I've been enamored with the idea of having a large tulip shaped face brush. I adore my Hakuhodo J5521(whoops, revised link to review here) but I fancied myself something a bit bigger. There aren't too many out there on the market, I can think of only two others; Sedona Lace makes one and the Sigma F25. The Hakuhodo B103BkSL certainly was on the pricier side of the spectrum but I found that I absolutely loved using it.

YSL Pure Chromatics No. 8

Thursday, May 15, 2014
Good evening! I posted a look using this quad earlier this week and I figured that I would post my review as soon as I photographed the swatches. I recently bought the YSL Pure Chromatics No. 8 while shopping for presents. To be honest, Yves Saint Laurent is not a brand that I frequently look to, as the flashy gold packaging is a huge turn off for me. I think I have one other blush that was gifted to me and that's about it. That bright gold mirror-like surface collects fingerprints all too easily and it drives me a bit bonkers (perhaps this is why I'm very partial to matte black packaging).

EOTD: Featuring YSL Pure Chromatics No. 8

Tuesday, May 13, 2014
Hi folks! First I'd like to thank you all for the comments on yesterday's personal post. It means a lot to me. Truly.

I recently picked up my first YSL eye item, YSL Pure Chromatics No. 8, which I'll definitely review in the future in detail but I wanted to share this first look I created with it.

Mundane Mundanes, Vol. XIX: So Here's What's Wrong With Me

Monday, May 12, 2014
Here's a picture of my cat freaking out, which hopefully makes this somber post much more entertaining.

Good day, readers!

This post has been a long time coming. If you've been a long time reader (or an observant new reader), you'll have noticed that I haven't been super well for quite a while. Today, being International Awareness Day for Myalgic Encephalopathy/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, seemed as good of a day as any for a little explanation.

There's not a super great understanding of what fibromyalgia is and truthfully haven been diagnosed with it fairly recently, I'm not as knowledgeable as I could be (click here to read and stuff). It's characterized as having symptoms of chronic pain (varying in intensity, type of pain and duration) as well as fatigue and insomnia.  However FM has been my unknown and unwelcome companion for years and I can tell you what it's been like. I could go on at length about what it has been like, but I'll try to keep it short (unless you REALLY want to know).

Polished by KPT March into Spring Collection

Friday, May 9, 2014

Hi folks!

I finally finished editing my pictures of this gorgeous spring collection from Polished by KPT. I kept reswatching certain shades because the pictures didn't come out s great as I wanted them to, but now I'm finally satisfied. March into Spring contains five thermal shades. First thought, check out the new packaging!

FOTD: Orange

Wednesday, May 7, 2014
 Good evening all!

I really wanted to do orange lips today, so I pulled out Impulse Cosmetics Electric City (review here) and slapped that on. I actually had to do a few layers to build it to this opacity. I added a clean winged liner and called it a day.

Ninja Polish Color Changing Garnet

Tuesday, May 6, 2014
 Hi folks!

Before I talk about this polish, I just wanted to comment that I can't remember if I bought this polish or if it was a press sample. Yeah. Giant whoops. Not that it would change my review, but just to let you know that I can't honestly remember. I've had it for roughly a year and only now pulled out Ninja Polish Color Changing Garnet. It contains both color shifting pigment and micro glitter, so it looks red/copper/gold/emerald green. Since it's not just shimmer but actually contains glitter too, the sparkle is more pronounced than a simple color shifting pigment topcoat.

Laura Mercier Bronzing Pressed Powder in Dune Bronze

Sunday, May 4, 2014

So as it turns out, I've been sitting on this review for about a year. I purchased Laura Mercier Bronzed Pressed Powder in Dune Bronze last April. I'm not sure why I did, not even to this day. I'm not a big bronzer person, I just prefer my untanned color to bronzed skin (this explains how I must be the only person in the state of California to have a vitamin D deficiency). I think I bought in the off chance I did tan a bit over the summer and rather than buy darker foundation, it would be easier to sweep on a bit of bronze color.

RBL NailsandNoms

Friday, May 2, 2014

 Hi folks,

This is the manicure that I've been wearing these past couple of days. I really was drawn to the warm carrot orange of Rescue Beauty Lounge NailsandNoms so I used that as my base color.

NailsandNoms is such a beautiful color, modeled after an even more brilliant blogger - Rie. I used four coats because it was a little bit sheer for a creme. NailsandNoms is so unique, it's filled with beautiful blue/purple/fuchsia-looking ultra fine shimmer.

I then taped the design using nail striping tape and used American Apparel Cotton as my accent color.

Rescue Beauty Lounge shades are available here.

Have a great night! I'm not sure if I'll be blogging this weekend. The mister has half a mind for us to go camping. In the snow (but... but why? Madness, I tell you).
