Inglot Pearl 606

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

My purchase of Laura Mercier Fire Glow from the Summer 2013 Collection spiraled into a deep appreciation of coppery/metallic orange colors that has lasted even until now. I recently saw a good friend of mine wearing this shade and I kinda had to immediately have it myself. Inglot Pearl 606 is a very sparkly/metallic copper.

Inglot AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Good afternoon!

Over the weekend, I picked up my first Inglot AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow. At $14 per pot (2 grams), this actually makes them more expensive than MAC Pigments (at $21 for 4.5 grams) but as I have yet to finish even one sample of a MAC Pigment, I didn't mind splitting this shade with a friend.

I picked #35, a chunky cool gold in a base that looks pastel purple or dusty indigo depending on the angle. Hardcore nail polish collectors - remember Sally Hansen Opulent Cloud? Or Orly Oui? This is like a chunky eye shadow version of those polishes.

Magenta/Blue Duochrome Eyes

Monday, September 29, 2014
 Good afternoon!

I've really been loving unusual duochrome looks lately. I mean, brown with a green/blue flash is rather commonplace (think about how many brands have such a shaodw; MAC, Too Faced, Kat von D, Urban Decay, etc) but I've seen some beautiful looks with magenta/blue and orange/golden green.

While rummaging through my makeup (currently half is still living on the main floor) I was thrilled to discover that I already owned such a color! Enter Femme Fatale Cosmetics Dispersion. A matte sort of brick red color with icy blue interference.

FOTD with Impulse Cosmetics Run Away Lipstick

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

 Good morning!

This was my FOTD yesterday, but I ended up being so tired that I fell asleep at 6PM and didn't get around to posting it.

I decided to go with a bright lipstick with that sort of gradient outline so I pulled out Impulse Cosmetics Run Away Lipstick. If you recall, I swatched it here

Retro FOTD featuring Firmoo Glasses

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

Good afternoon!

Today I've created a look to go hand in hand with my new Firmoo glasses. I've been a devout contacts wearer for close to two decades but you can bet that I always have a pair of trusty glasses nearby, just in case. I was able to pick out this fantastic pair of large rimmed retro-looking glasses and decided that it deserved red lipstick to go along with it.

FOTD: Orange

Wednesday, May 7, 2014
 Good evening all!

I really wanted to do orange lips today, so I pulled out Impulse Cosmetics Electric City (review here) and slapped that on. I actually had to do a few layers to build it to this opacity. I added a clean winged liner and called it a day.

FOTD feat. Impulse Cosmetics Pandora

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Once again, the slightly gloomy weather has me reaching for moody dark lipsticks. Last winter it was NARS Terre de Feu. This winter it is Impulse Cosmetics Pandora.
I recently ordered a few more Opaque Matte Lipsticks from Impulse Co. Swatches and review to come, but in the mean time I had to wear this sultry mulberry as soon as I could.

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in Granite
Eyes: Jordana FabuLiner, Red Cherry #523
Face: MUFE HD, Graftobian Hi Def Glamour Creme, NARS Light Reflecting Powder

FOTD - Laura Mercier Artiste Palette Is The Greatest

Wednesday, February 26, 2014
I felt better this morning so I put on a neutral eye and a soft "naked" face. I used my Laura Mercier Artiste Palette (2012 version), which might be my most beloved palette of all time. Seriously. I use it every week and it comes on the majority of my trips.

I still haven't put a dent in it. Well Vanilla Nuts, the light bone color that I use for a brow highlight, is almost near hitting pan. This was such a great gift from my then boyfriend, now husband. Every time I look at this palette I am filled with approval. Such a versatile makeup item! I was tempted to buy the 2013 version but there were just too many overlapping shades, some of which I also owned as singles.

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Duo in Granite
Eyes: LORAC Behind The Scenes Eye Primer, Laura Mercier shades in: Vanilla Nuts, Cafe au Lait, Coffee Ground, Rich Coffee and Sunlit, Wet'n'Wild Panther, La Femme Eye Liner Sealer, false lashes
Face: Make Up For Ever Pro Finish, Revlon Colorstay, NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder, NARS Douceur
Lips: Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brulee

Have a great night!

Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD 607 Nocturne + FOTD

Friday, January 31, 2014
Happy New Year, fellow Chinese and Lunar year celebrators!

I felt well enough today for the first time in a few weeks to don a full face of makeup. I missed it. Not so much covering up imperfections, but the ritual itself of picking up brushes, gently drawing liner and lightly dusting powder.

Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD 607 Nocturne, my first Shiseido lip product. I have a deluxe mini tube and it is wonderful! Not for the faint of heart, this color is intense. A cool dark red, leaning a bit almost brick red. It's saturated and very striking. In the tube, I can see faint subtle sparkle but luckily it doesn't really show on the lips, other than enhancing shine. Admittedly, I'd be happier if it were completely creme without sparkle, just my preference. The formula is fragrance free (this fills me with joy) and a bit sticky.

I also found Nocturne to be quite long wearing. This shade didn't really feather and bleed when applied straight to my lips without any liner. It also felt quite moisturizing. I'm really happy with this liquid lipstick, it has all the aspects I prefer; moisturizing, rich pigmentation, long wearing and also non bleeding. In other words, near perfection.

I'm also wearing:

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Duo in Granite
Face: Dolce & Gabbana Luminous The Foundation, NARS Light Reflecting Powder, Chanel Notorious
Eyes: Rock & Republic Fatalistic and Fuel, Femme Fatale Eyeliner Sealer, Andrea Lashes #33

I tried to do a red/gold thing for Chinese New Year but Nocturne was so beautiful, I didn't want to take away from the intensity. So I dabbed a bit of yellow gold shadow under my lower lash line, sketched some winged eyeliner on and called it a day.

FOTD: Apricot, White & Russet

Sunday, September 29, 2013
A simple FOTD using warmer colors today. I wanted to use some russet on my eyes so I used that in the outer crease. I used white on my lid and stark black liner to create barriers to avoid the conjunctivitis looks. Skipped mascara since my allergies have been acting up.

Brows: NARS Bali
Eyes: LORAC Behind The Scenes Primer, NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk, Mehron INtense Pro Pressed Pigment in Pure Lightning, Sigma Creme de Couture Palette, Rock & Republic Fatalistic, La Femme Eye Liner Sealer
Face: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk + Revlon Colorstay, NARS Pressed Light Reflecting Powder, Catrice Lip & Cheek Colour in Blossom Me, Blossom You, Chanel Notorious, Becca Pressed Shimmer Powder in Nymph
Lips: Catrice Lip & Cheek Colour in Blossom Me, Blossom You

A FOTD

Monday, July 22, 2013
I've had a lot of polish posts so I just wanted to sneak in a FOTD post today. I wore mostly boring makeup last week so wanted more fun colors once I got home from Vegas (how ironic is it that I looked boring in Vegas?).

Brows: NARS Bali shadow
Eyes: LORAC Behind The Scenes Primer, Femme Fatale Swamplord, Sandscale and Jewel Scarab. False lashes, Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara,  Laura Mercier Vanilla Nuts, Rock & Republic Fatalistic
Face: Revlon Colorstay Combination Foundation, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, NARS Douceur, NARS Light Reflecting Powder
Lips: Stila Convertible Color in Peony

I've really been enjoying my Femme Fatale Cosmetics samples, will share swatches and review them soon.

Revisited: LORAC Snake Charmer Palette + FOTD

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

Hi folks,

I decided to start a new series of FOTDs featuring old palettes that need some love that I might have reviewed before. I wouldn't say that this palette is neglected, it just doesn't pop up in my rotation as often as it should. I don't know if you can see the dips in the pans, but this palette has definitely been used quite a bit over the approximately three years that I've had it.

The four shadows and blush are quite pigmented. The shimmery/metallic shadows are very buttery, and the blush is a really buildable. The whole palette leans quite warm (something quite common in a lot of LORAC's palettes). I love how travel friendly this palette is, very study. In fact all my LORAC palettes accompany me often on trips.

I did the "gradient" eye look, essentially using the lighter colors closer to my brows and the darker shades by my lash line.

I used:
Brows: NARS Bali, NYX Brow Shaper, MUFE Full Cover (for sculpting)
Face: MUFE Full Cover, MUFE HD + Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, Laura Mercier Bronzing Powder in Dune, Sephora Collection Mattfying Foundation Powder, blush from LORAC Snake Charmer
Eyes: LORAC Behind The Scenes Eye Primer, LORAC Snake Charmer, Prestige Total Intensity Deepest Black liner, Milani Grandissmo mascara
Lips: Revlon Lip Butter in Brule

Do you have any favorite palettes that you like to bring on trips?

Red Gradient Lips and Nails

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Usually I don't go all matchy-matchy with my makeup and nails. However, I did a subtle red gradient lips today and thought it'd be neat if my nails looked like my lips, only with more black. I didn't want my lips to have that 90's dark lip liner look, remember that?

I used NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Terre de Feu all over my lips, then used Estee Lauder Artist's Pencil in Soft Smudge Black to line the lips. I used a lip brush to blend that in, then used OCC Lip Tar in Harlot in the center of my lips.

Other products used on my face:

Brows: NARS Bali shadow, NYX Eye Brow Shaper
Eyes: Inglot M 318, Urban Decay Secret Service, NYX HD Eye Shadow Base, La Femme Eye Liner Sealer, Calvin Klein Night Dust
Face: Black Radiance Complexion Perfection, MUFE Full Cover Concealer, a mix of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk + MUFE HD Foundation, Stila Peony Convertible Color, Dot Dot Translucent Powder

On my nails I used Zoya Posh and Wet'n'Wild Black Creme for a sponged gradient. Definitely not the best gradient I've done since the nails were an afterthought- I was in a hurry to get out the door!

Thanks for checking this look out!

FOTD: Navy Smokey Eyes

Friday, December 14, 2012
Just a quick FOTD post. I absolutely love, love, love my Sephora + Pantone Shades of Nature Palette. I've done 1409483 different looks with it already, every time I open it up another combination of colors leaps out at me. Today I did something really simple, just smokey navy eye shadow paired with soft, almost nude lips.

Brows: NARS Bali mixed with LORAC Cappucino shadows
Eyes: NYX HD Eye Shadow Base, Sephora + Pantone Shades of Nature Palette (most of the blue/grey column), NYX Provacteur Mascara
Face: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, MUFE HD Foundation, Chanel Notorious, Guerlain Meteorites Emilio Pucci Edition
Lips: Dior Addict Urban

Do you have a piece of makeup that you just keep reaching for over and over again lately?

FOTD & a Change of Hair Color

Monday, October 22, 2012
I recently colored my hair color! I like it, though it is a tad bit more red than I would have liked. I think I may go a bit darker in the future, but I'm leaving it alone for now since lightening hair tends to be stressful for my locks.

I had finally found a brow shade that I think matches my hair pretty well without leaning too warm. I mixed LORAC Suede and Cappuccino, not too bad!

Brows: LORAC Suede & Cappuccino shadows
Face: G2Organics Hickey Stick*, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk + MUFE HD, Guerlain Meteorites (Emilio Pucci edition), Chanel Notorious
Lips: Revlow Rosy Nude
Eyes: NYX HD Eyeshadow Base, Fyrinnae Polar Bear, LORAC Multi Platinum Palette (black & ivory shades), MAC Concrete

What sort of treatments do you like to do for just colored hair? My favorite is Design Essentials Express Moisturizing Treatment. It makes my hair feel so amazing! (If you're curious I blogged about it HERE)

Rockin' It- Marcelle Rouge Xpression in Cleopatra

Monday, September 10, 2012

It's hard for me to adore Rae from the Notice anymore than I already do. However, this here Marcelle Rouge Xpression lipstick she sent me way certainly ups the ante. This particular shade, Cleopatra is exactly what was missing from my lipstick wardrobe!

A gorgeous saturated fuchsia that I found pretty flattering indeed!

I'm totally wearing my pajamas.
The great thing about this lipstick is that it has great slip, but very light feeling. Fantastic, rich pigmentation. Why can't we have nice things over here in the States? I kid, I kid. No seriously, why can't we have this particular nice thing?

I'm also wearing:

Brows: NARS Bali shadow
Eyes: e.l.f. Eyelid Primer, NARS Alhambra shadow, NARS Bali shadow, LORAC Beige shadow, NARS Pandora shadow, La Femme Eye Liner Sealer
Face: MUFE HD + Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, MUFE Full Cover Foundation, Guerlain Emilio Pucci edition Meteorites, NYX Taupe
Lips: Marcelle Rouge Xpression in Cleopatra

Thank you so much, Rae! I absolutely love this lipstick, I've really enjoyed wearing it. Isn't it great how a wonderful shade of lipstick can really improve your mood?

The Penguin Makeup Challenge: White & a Color

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

We've established that I like to play around with makeup that can't really be worn out of the house, right? Good. Let that be my disclaimer. For this white and a color challenge, I picked blue.
You know the wizards in Qarth, in the House of the Undying that drink shade-of-the-night which turns their lips blue? Oh you're a Song of Ice and Fire fan? Me too.

Brows: NARS Bali shadow
Eyes: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk, Milani Snow Frost shadow, LORAC Beige, Jane Rockstar shadow, Annabelle B-Ray shadow, Coastal Scents Hot Pot in M17, false lashes.
Lips: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk, Coastal Scents Hot Pot M17
Face: Graftobian HD Foundation, MUFE Full Cover Concealer, Smashbox Golden Glow bronzer

I'm sad that this challenge is over! I found a lot of really cool blogs that were new to me to follow and really enjoyed playing with my makeup. The best part for me though, was using some stuff that I had laying around for the longest time, unloved. That NYX Jumbo Pencil? I bought that like three years ago. Same with those Milani and Jane shadows.

Be sure to check out the other bloggers and their looks!

The Penguin Makeup Challenge: Black & White

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

It's finally here! I'm delighted to take part in The Penguin Makeup Challenge along with many other fabulous bloggers. Today's challenge is using the classic black and white.

Since I haven't done any outlandish makeup looks lately, I felt like I wanted to do something a bit more editorial than a day to day look. I was heavily influenced by the the makeup MAC did for The Blonds NYFW 2011. Even that was too safe though, I added in a bit more! I didn't want to over power it with false lashes though. Minimally outlandish?

Brows: NARS Bali shadow
Face: MUFE Full Cover Concealer, MUFE HD mixed with Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, e.l.f. HD Powder and NYX Taupe blush
Eyes: LORAC Behind The Scenes Eye Primer, NYX Jumbo Milk Pencil, Wet'n'Wild I <3 Matte Palette, Calvin Klein Night Dust shadow, MAC Mixing Medium Gel, Urban Decay Uzi shadow
Lips: BECCA Gisella
I wanted to play with sharp lines, but soft rounded curves at the same time. Hence the huge hair bun, and the contouring of the cheeks.

Check out the other bloggers that participated and their awesome black & white looks!

Wednesday's FOTD

Friday, July 27, 2012

Today's one of those days where I planned to post about something else... but wasn't happy with the pictures. So you get an old FOTD. I'd be ashamed but... honestly, I have a feeling other bloggers do it too.

Brows: NARS Bali shadow, NYX Brow Shaper
Face: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk mixed with MUFE HD, MUFE Full Cover Concealer, VOV Color Song Volume Blusher #3 Pink Red Mixing, Guerlain Emilio Pucci Meteorites
Eyes: e.l.f. Eyelid Primer, MAC Style Snob, Urban Decay Perversion shadow, La Femme Eyeliner Sealer
Lips: Rimmel Hype mixed with Rock & Republic Cougar gloss

Ok, now I feel properly ashamed. Good content soon to follow, I promise.

Running Into People You'd Rather Not & a FOTD

Saturday, June 30, 2012
You know what is worse than running into an ex boyfriend? Running into your ex boyfriend's parents. Especially if they are not what I would call... pleasant people. Ugh! Usually when I'm out and about and have the misfortune of running into people that I would happily go the rest of my life seeing, I look like crap. You know what I'm talking about- when you're wearing sweats, your hair is pulled back into a scraggly ponytail and there is some sort of vegetation from your last meal stuck between your teeth.
It's rather hard to hold your head up high and say "I'm doing quite well for myself, thank you very much!" when you look like that!

Somehow, I lucked out today. I didn't look half bad. Too bad that didn't stop them from making annoying , snide comments!

Brows: NARS Bali shadow
Face: MUFE HD + Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation mixed together, Rock & Republic Pressed Powder in Chiffon, MAC Crew Highlighter Powder, Guerlain Emilio Pucci edition Meteorites
Eyes: NARS All About Eve duo, NARS Kalahari Duo, Rock & Republic Fatalistic, Rock & Republic Lawsuit
Lips: OCC Liptar in Harlot mixed with Le Metier de Beaute Magic Luster Creme

What's the worst you've looked or best you've looked when you ran into someone like an ex boyfriend or previous boss or somebody like that?
