NARS Heat Wave Lipstick

Good day!

I was chatting with someone about matte/satin warm red lipsticks that leaned orange when I realized with shame that I had never blogged about NARS Heat Wave, the reigning red lipstick of my affection. I feel like I've been searching for this tomato red for years, now I am finally content. In fact, this is the shade I wore to our Vegas wedding last December.

One of earliest complete memories was being about three or four years old and playing with themakeup of my mother. My mom never really wore much makeup, even now she wears maybe only the occasional rose hued lipstick but I remember her having this striking red lipstick in a white tube. Don't play with it, she said. Naturally (defiant), I of course sneaked away with it the first chance I found. My mom found me with lipstick smeared all over, a ghastly sight that would make even a clown wince.

Two decades later, enter NARS Heat Wave. This is obviously not the same lipstick but this shade of red fills me with the same thrill as borrowing forbidden lipstick. I also like to think that my application skills might have improved a bit as well. Vibrantly red, this shade is satin though I find that it photographs a bit more glossy than it actually is. The formula is great, long wearing yet not drying. It stays on well too, but if you plan on eating I would certainly wear lip liner to keep it from straying.

It's my every day red, my special occasion red, my bold red, my statement red. And it is perfect. Funny thing though, every time I wear it Morgan asks me if I bought a new red lipstick, though he must have seen me wear it a dozen times.

NARS Heat Wave Lipstick is $26 and available from stores such as Nordstrom and Sephora.
