Hello!

I've been fighting some dreadful nausea all week so this is the first day in a while I've been upright without feeling queasy. Luckily for me, this little indulgence arrived today - the Best Bite Remix set. Can you believe it's been six months since I bought any makeup? I didn't intentionally start a no-buy, but I just went with it. When I saw this set on Sephora I thought, "treat yo self", a la Tom & Donna.

As much as I prefer to shop at Nordstrom these days, I can't help that Sephora carries one of my favorite lipstick brands - BITE Beauty - and occasionally waves tantalizing LE shades at me. I'm weak. I can't help myself. So recently I purchased the LE VIB Rouge shade Lilac. It seemed that Lilac was BITE's answer to the color of the year, Radiant Orchid.

Last year, Sephora unveiled a new status - VIB Rouge. To qualify, one must spend $1000 in a calendar year. BITE Beauty released a limited edition Luminous Créme shade, BITE For VIB Rouge and a mini version comes in the VIB Rouge welcome kit.

I'm already a huge fan of the BITE Luminous Créme forumula but this shade just takes the cake. BITE For VIB Rouge is a primal, smoldering blue based red. It's darker and more true red than Poppy and less pink than Pomegranate, if you were wondering. I usually prefer my reds on the warm side but I think that this is close enough to neutral that it might be THE universally flattering red.

The thing that gets my goat is that this LE VIB Rouge exclusive shade is $28 while regular shades of BITE Luminous Créme Lipstick are $24. It seems rather silly to charge more when VIB Rouge members have already spent a decent amount at Sephora.

Anyways, free shipping all year and an extra Make Up For Ever mini Aqua Pencil in Black for the birthday gift. There's also early access to sales (like that one at the end of 2013, the clearance sale) and early access to new products (like the new Pantone Universe + Sephora 2014 lipstick, but that sold out instantly). There's supposedly other perks too but to be honest, it feels pretty much like regular VIB; not worth fussing over.

I recently saw that Sephora had the BITE Beauty Luminous Lip Library on sale and realized I had never actually posted a review. Whoops. I bought this last year and have really enjoyed using it despite my hatred of lip palettes.

Why do I hate on lip palettes? I'm a clumsy individual. I'm prone to dropping things and tripping. Beautiful, exposed pans of lip products have a way of becoming nicked up, gathering unwanted particles and smearing all over the place. That being said, I still really love this palette by Bite Beauty because it has a nice array of colors in a formula I adore and is very travel friendly.

The Library is a simple black matte cardboard "book" with a large mirror on the inside of the magnetic lid. It contains small pots of Prep (lip butter), Prime (line & define primer), Protect (sheer balm), a small lip brush and nine pots of lipstick. The colors (with the exception of Poppy which looks to be a color from the High Impact Matte Pencil line) are of the Luminous Creme formula, meaning sparkle and shimmer free but a bit glossy looking.

With so many shades, I opted out for lip swatches and decided to stick to arm ones. From left to right: Cava, Rosette, Pepper, Fig, Cin Cin, Poppy, Carmenere, Rose, Tannin.

Cava, a pale cooler pink.
Rosette is darker, dusky pink.
Pepper looks daker than Rosette in the pan but is about the same shade, only warmer.
Fig is a beautiful medium pink, brighter than the other pinks.
Cin Cin is coral in the pan but leans vibrant orange on the lips.
Poppy is very pretty intense red with only a hint of orange.
Carmenere is a darker raspberry red.
Rose is a medium pink, warmer than fig and a bit darker.
Tannin is a stunning dark red with a hint of wine.

Like before, when I reviewed the Discovery Set, I have to say that I like the formula. The lipsticks are emollient and not drying to my perpetually chapped lips. The darker shades do stain but very lightly, a bit of a flush to your lips after wearing it for a while but do not bleed. My favorites are the bold Tannin, the delightfully bright Carmenere and the delicate Cava shades. This palette is great to travel with, a whole range of lipsticks at your hand.

There are however two things worth noting about this palette. The first is that a few of the lighter shades do look very similar. I wish that there were more plums or nudes instead of so many shades of pink. One other thing is that I noticed that the small pot of Superfruit Butter does not contain specks the way the regular sized product does. That being said, I still like the Superfruit Butter a lot and am considering buying a full pot. The Prime seems just ok to me, not bad but nothing to write home about either. The Protect Sheer Balm is the only product that doesn't come in regular size, which is too bad because I found it really moisturizing.

Each 'B' shaped pan of lipstick is 0.025oz meaning that the Library is the equivalent of almost two regular sized lipsticks (0.13oz each) with the addition of Prep, Prime, Protect and the brush. A regular full sized Luminous Creme lipstick is $24, making this $30 (marked down from $36) palette a good value in my book.

BITE Beauty Discovery Set - Thoughts and Swatches

Hi folks!

I'm finally getting around to reviewing most of the stuff I bought last year during Sephora's F&F sale. I have a good excuse though; I wanted to use my new camera to take better swatch pictures. I had taken some with my old camera but these definitely do the shades more justice!

BITE Beauty is a brand new to me. I had see some of the lipsticks around on various blogs, including Pink Sith and Beauty Reflections. When I saw that they had a mini lipstick set that let you explore some of their shades for a mere $25 (combined with that 20%) I was more than happy to add it to my cart. I was extremely pleased because all of the shades were free of sparkle/glitter/shimmer.

These lipsticks may be mini, but they add up to a full size lipstick (which are $24 each), so I thought it was a great way to try out a range of shades rather than commit to one color. Not to mention, I have never finished a lipstick in my life so the small size didn't bother me. In fact, I adore the mini little lipstick bullets. The packaging is this soft, rubberized grey material that reminds me a lot of BECCA packaging, but less suede feeling. This set came in this little rubberized case with a very handy mirror on the inside of the lid.

Retsina. Nude in color.

Musk. A natural color that almost matches the natural pigmentation of my lips but perhaps a touch more brown-rose.

Fig. A rose pink that is not too bright, not too pale.

Shiraz. A brown dark rose.

Pomegranate. A classic primary red.

The formula is great. Rich pigmentation, emollient but the colors (I'm really directing this towards that potent red) do not bleed. Great for my perpetually dry lips, though I did find myself reapplying rather often.

What I liked most about this set was how travel friendly it was. I brought with me on two trips, and it served me well. With five shades, it provided me with a color for any occasion but was also very compact. I liked this set so much, I actually bought the BITE Beauty Lipstick Library, which I'll be reviewing shortly.

Bite Beauty is carried by Sephora. This particular set is not currently available (ah, the price I pay for taking so long to review things) but each shade is individually available in either the Luminous Creme formula or the High Pigment Matte Pencil.
