Milani Grandissimo Lashes Mascara Review

Thursday, April 25, 2013

I picked up the new Milani Grandissimo last month because I saw how awesome it looked on Christina from Let Them Have Polish. I have to admit that I don't really like doing mascara reviews because I find my experience with mascara to always be completely different from that of others. It all just really depends on what lashes you have. My lashes are really straight, quite short and scary sparse so usually I don't put much faith in mascara and opt to reach for false lashes instead.

But how does Milani Grandissimo fair?

Left side, with two coats of Grandissimo. Right side is without mascara.

The soft brush is really quite large, which I like because I find it to coat each lash quite well. The volumizing effect was pretty decent. The formula was ok, no clumping. Usually mascara doesn't really smudge or flake on me (I think I just don't have enough lashes for enough mascara to end up anywhere on my lower lashes. *sigh*) so I can't comment on that. It was pretty easy to remove though, it came right off with oil cleanser and warm water, so I was pleased with that.

The price is rather agreeable as well, $5.49. Definitely on the more affordable end of mascaras, even at the drugstore.

Overall, I think if you already have lots of lashes, this will make them look even more amazing. I however, will stick to my false lashes instead because this mascara can't compensate for my lack of lashes.

New Milani Jewel FX in Gold

Monday, November 22, 2010
No flash, light box. Each nail is topped off with Sally Hansen Insta Dri and a
layer of Milani Gold Jewel FX. Left to right: Bare nail, Hard Candy Mr Wrong,
Wet'n'Wild Black Creme and China Glaze Emerald Fitzgerald
I'm not that big on glitters. Especially not when there's like different shapes, sizes and colors of glitter within the same nail polish. When I first saw  pictures of China Glaze's 2010 Holiday shade Party Hearty, I was instantly disgusted. To me, it looks like you got drunk with the Glitter Fairy last night, who can't handle her liquor and she thew up all over your hands. And for some gross reason, you didn't wash it off. (Click here to check out VampyVarnish's post about Party Hearty!)
So when I saw the new Milani Jewel FX polishes I was intrigued yet repulsed at the same time. There's two of them, one that contains a rainbow of glitter in all sizes (instant turn off!) and one with large gold glitters. Ok, the latter I could kind of stomach. So I bought it!
What I like about Gold Jewel FX is that it's suspended very well and very dense in the bottle. This is the type of glitter where you don't really do one or two coats- mostly you use the brush to rearrange and dab more glitter where ever you see fit.
To be honest, this glitter just isn't me. If however, someday I was ever stranded on an island with only one item- hopefully it'd be this polish. Why? Because I could do like 4 layers of this on my nails and use the sun's rays to signal any aircraft, it's just that blingy!
If this looks like something you're interested in I'd hop on over quick to CVS or where ever Milani is sold in your area. There were only two slots in the display, so I'm guessing two bottles for each location.

Milani Jewel FX in Gold was $4.99.
PS: This polish is ridiculously hard to get off. Glitter hell.

What do you think of such big, blingy glitter? Or about multi colored glitters in general like China Glaze Party Hearty or Lippman Happy Birthday?

NOTD: Milani Dot Com

Essie First Base x1, Milani Dot Com x3
I've been sick for the last few days, so no posts about cosmetics or FOTDs :( Buuuuuut... I do have a treat for you! My friend Mae sent me this awesome Milani polish, that I immediately had to try on because it looked so cool in the bottle. Dot Com is this amazing dark purplish color with coppery-goldish- and other subtle flecks of shimmer, it really is a great color. I also really like Milani's polishes, I find that they have consistently good quality for a drugstore polish.
Whoa! This almost looks like the layering job I did with my polishes two days ago, only the shimmer isn't on top, it's integrated into the polish and not duo-chrome looking.

Thanks Mae for this great polish!

NOTD: Milani Digital (Holo!)

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Since seeing pictures of this super sparkle filled polish, I knew I had to have it. The holo bits in this shadow are a little on the chunky side, meaning that this polish is as far away from subtle as you can possibly get. When I look at this polish on my hands in the sunlight I almost get hypnotized, remind me to be careful while driving and to not glance at my fingers on the steering wheel. This comes from Milani's 3D polish collection with 5 (if I remember correctly) other holo polishes in Easter egg colors.
