Stamped: Essie Case Study & Sally Hansen Silver Sweep

Monday, August 13, 2012
Hey folks!

Here's an older manicure I did a few weeks ago. Normally, I don't like to have a whole bunch of nail posts in a row, but it's getting late and I am unprepared to show you anything else! I suck.

My base color here is Essie Case Study, a medium tan creme that I bought on clearance a long time ago. I stamped with Sally Hansen Insta Dri Silver Sweep, which is fantastic for stamping. The plate I used was BM 322, from the newest Bundle Monster set. Bundle Monster calls this the "2012" set, I refer to it as the 3-- series.

My beau Morgan, bought me this set of stamping plates as a present. Actually, he bought me the 2-- series set as well, last summer. I hereby claim to have a monopoly on awesome boyfriend material. I can't wait to play with more of the designs, I like these so much more than the 1-- series or the 2-- plates!

What's your favorite set of stamping plates? The new MASH ones? XL ones?

Sally Hansen In a Flurry

Sunday, August 12, 2012

A few weeks ago, I was bitten by the LE bug. Fellow nail polish aficionados,  you know what I'm talking about. You see something really cool on a blog, and the words LIMITED EDITION jump out at you from the description and you know that you can't help but get it. Luckily I had a manufacturer's coupon and some cash register rewards, so I walked away with this polish for pennies.

It is a blackened green base with larger cool gold flecks, smaller blue/purple flashing sparkle and even finer purple shimmer. A lot of things going on. This is three coats.

I'm not totally in love with it though, so I think it may end up in my swap box. *sigh* LE fever, what can I say? At least I didn't really buy it, with use of coupons.

NOTD: A Favorite- Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure

Monday, December 13, 2010
1x Essie First Base, 1x WnW Black Creme, 1x Hidden Treasure
Nothing new or exciting- but I did one of my favorite combos yesterday. Hidden Treasure over Wet'n'Wild Black Creme. I've really been in a flakie mood lately (first Barielle Elle's Spell, Maybelline Colorama Sonic Sunset, now this!) and can't wait to get my hands on more. In fact, I have 4 NYX flakies coming in the mail. I'm also trying to get a hold of some Golden Rose flakies, but it's really hard since they're based out of Malta and discontinued. Why, why must my heart yearn for the unobtainable? And maybe after Christmas, I'll splurge and order a bunch of Nfu Oh ones! Don't worry, my holo obsession hasn't gone anywhere, it's just sitting on the back burner at the moment.
Anyways, I've must have worn this combo at least 10 times since receiving my bottle last May (thanks again, LPJ, I love you more than you'll ever know for sending this to me!)

Do you have Hidden Treasure? Or any other flakies?

Some of the products mentioned in this post were given to me as a gift. For more information, please read my Disclosure page.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Metallic Momentum

Saturday, December 4, 2010
***I'm on vacation for the next few days. This is a scheduled post. Don't worry! If you leave a comment, I'll still get back to you- it just might take a few days!***
Ah, remember how I raved about Bobbi Brown Chrome Pewter shadow? I loved that complex shade so much- imagine my surprise when I went to Rite Aid and found a polish the same exact color!
Metallic Momentum is a frosty/metallic finish. I actually wish it was slower drying, because it would make a great stamping polish- only it dries too fast.

1x Essie First Base, 2x Metallic Momentum

Ah, a gorgeous polish. The wear was pretty good too, I just wish this shade wasn't part of a limited edition Sally Hansen collection because I'm sorry out of luck if I ever run out or lose it. Sad face.

What's your favorite Sally Hansen polish? Or metallic frosty color?

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Concrete

2x Concrete. Indoors, lightbox + flash
Dear Reader,
You have, absolutely no idea how long it took me to hunt this polish down. When a friend in Texas told me she spotted had purchased Concrete, I rushed out and searched every drugstore within a 10 mile radius for the Sally Hansen display with all the new Xtreme Wears. Didn't find any.
Three or four weeks went by, and FINALLY one of the Rite Aids in my area put up a display. Why is it that the distribution of limited edition Sally Hansen polishes so weird? I have no clue. Well I snatched Concrete right up and it is absolutely gorgeous and I'm happy to have it.
Concrete is a soft, mauvey grey creme. The application is nice- a two coater. Xtremes actually wear quite well for me, especially if I don't wear anything else with it (like basecoat, flash dry top coat, glitters, flakes etc). This was one of the enamels I got at Rite Aid for BOGO50%, plus a $1 coupon for every bottle purchased. Great deal, since I was going to purchase them anyway!
That's all for now!
I hope you all have a good weekend, got any plans?

Sally Hansen Sequin Scandal

Wednesday, October 13, 2010
1x Essie First Base, 2x Sequin Scandal, 1x Seche Vite
I have to warn you in advance- there's going to be a lot of posts about Sally Hansen in the near future!
I stopped at Rite Aid yesterday and they had BOGO1/2 off of polishes, plus a $1 Wellness UP (basically a coupon for a $1 off your next purchase) for every enamel that you buy. So I may have gone overboard.
It's not my fault! I have been looking for all of the new LE Sally Hansen polishes everywhere, and finally found them. This one is probably my favorite- Sequin Scandel. It's a very dark swampy green shimmer- with sparkle bits that aren't uniform in size so that it's very interesting to look at.
Now, I don't know if I mentioned this before but I LOVE the Complete Salon Manicure bottles/brushes. They look snazzy and I actually prefer the shiny handle and sleek glass bottles to those of OPI or Orly. And the brush is so great, big and thick yet flexible and slightly tapered. I can usually cover my nail in one or two swipes.
Have you seen this LE collection around? It contained a lot of brownish-khaki looking shades.

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Amber Ruby

Tuesday, October 12, 2010
Flash, indoors so that you can see the red.
When I first took a look at this polish's name, I thought that who ever dubbed it over at Sally Hansen's creative department wasn't earning their pay. In the bottle, Amber Ruby looks like a dark oil slick- in fact, I thought it was a blackish duochrome at first when I found it in the fluorescent lighted aisles of the Dollar Tree (yup, that's right!) where it came in a pack of two nail enamels.
But, when I brought it home and applied it, it actually does go from a rich red to a vibrant orange (and even a little further into the yellow-green glow range) but I was a little disappointed because I had hoped it'd be super dark in color. See, I'm just a complainer by nature, I can't even just admire a nice duochrome. Actually, this is the nicest of all the Nail Prisms I've tried, formula wise. Some of them can be quite runny and sheer, but this one is very opaque and the application is great.
Amber Ruby, indoors- no flash, closer to natural light bulb.
And on a side note, I really need to find a richer hand cream. I've been trying to hide my dry cuticles behind my watermark in my pictures, have you noticed?  :( Sephora by OPI's hand moisturizer is a no go as well, it absorbs well but just doesn't nourish!

NOTD: Nude Fingers with Flakes

Thursday, August 5, 2010
A friend of mine was curious as to how Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure looked over a pale nude, so I did my best to oblige! I don't own many nudes, but China Glaze Wink was given to me by my makeup fairy godmother (actually, Hidden Treasure was given by LPJ as part of my birthday box!).
So here's 1x Seche Clear (trying to use this up!) 3x China Glaze Wink and 1x Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure and 1x Seche Vite Top Coat.
Nail line is still kinda visible, but overall- it's a very subtle, soft look with bits of opal flash. Definitely not used to this.

Special thanks to fairy godmother and LPJ for these polishes!

NOTD: Sally Hansen Sunrise, Sunset

Friday, June 11, 2010
I wish I had some sort of clever explanation for this nail polish, but I really don't.
It's a beautiful bright coral with shimmery lime green interference. Could a color embody the spirit of summer any more than this shade? No.
I only wish you could see more of the lime green, which doesn't photograph well.

I'm now officially on the hunt for a gloss this color, any suggestions would be most welcome!
Also, check out this giveaway (also linked in my side bar):
Elli Duvolle

It's an awesome giveaway, if I do say so myself. Since I'm aching for more Korean cosmetics, I'd be rather ridiculously happy if I won.

And finally, on an unrelated note- you may have noticed that I changed the background and layout a bit! Blogger's new design feature allowed me to tweak the width of the posts so that my embedded YT vids finally fit. Also changed the overall color scheme to cooler colors, just because it looked better with the pictures I was taking of products under natural light bulbs!
What do you think?

Cheap Makeup High, Also Some Swatches

Friday, April 9, 2010

I love good deals. They give me a kind of high that I just can't duplicate in any other way. I went to the Dollar Tree again, and got some more stuff. I bought two more Moist & Matte Liquid Colors.I picked up another Charmeuse (a vibrant red) and Chiffon (a hot pink).
I really like these, because the color is really opaque and it doesn't dry out my lips. There is one minor drawback, they smell like nail polish. That can't really be good for your lips, so I wear lip primer as a sort of barrier.
I also bought six L.A. Colors Mineral Eyeshadows and am fairly happy with them. Here's some swatches. Notice how unlike the rest of my fabulous pictures, these aren't done in natural sunlight? That's because I really didn't think they were worth waiting till the next day and trekking outside for. The photos with and without flash pretty much do them justice.

Notes: I thought it'd be overkill to swatch each color four times like I normally do, with all the bells and whistles. Since I assume you are a benevolent reader and would like me to stay sane, I'll just generalize and say that these shadows look better with something underneath or wet. Black is a matte black with the tiniest particles of silver glitter, not really visible to the naked eye. In the last picture of wet shadows, you can see one sparkle. White is odd. It's like matte and pearly at the same time, which doesn't really make for the smoothest application. Beige is a shimmery champagne peach. Gold is a soft shimmery 20 carat gold. Teal is a really smooth, attention calling matte teal (as the name would suggest). Purple is a matte, ordinary violet. I sort of like the unimaginative naming scheme because everything is pretty self explanatory.
In particular, I'm rather fond of the Teal and Beige. Just due to the awesome color of the first, and the soft, champagney glow of the second (which could probably be great even as a highlighter). I think they'are a fantastic value, and I would highly recommend using all of them wet. Well, except for the White. It's just kinda weird.

I also raped Target today. Yes, that's right. They had the e.l.f. display finally up and yours truly took every last Elements compact left. All eight of them. Was that a little selfish? I honestly needed them- I had about 24 or so eye shadows in limbo ever since I stepped on one of my 28 slot palettes and destroyed it. Well, my sincere apologies to the people in the area of Voorhees and Cherry Hill, New Jersey. You have me to blame for your lack of compacts.
I also bought a single e.l.f. eyeshadow in Moondust, 'cause you know, taupes are my thing and I don't discriminate based on price. It's very soft but the problem is that on it's own it has very little color payoff and doesn't last at all. But pair it with NYX Jumbo Pencil in milk, and you've got a winner. Of all the taupes I own, this one is the least frosty. In fact, it's quite satiny in texture, with the tiniest bit of shimmer. This picture isn't blurred, honest. The shadow just really wants to crumble off my arm.

I also grabbed two more $1 eyeshadow brushes because they're so handy for swatching and for day to day use. The last thing that I found interesting and had to try out was the e.l.f. Complexion Perfection powder quad. I'll write a whole review about it, promise.

Cheap Finds + DIY Freestyle Palette

Saturday, March 27, 2010

So, while my fiance was at Best Buy, getting the last PS3 (which by the way, made him so giddy and happy that he tried to drive home with in his lap) I went to Marshalls, the Dollar Tree and Kmart, getting absolute beauty steals.
First stop, Marshalls. Here's the thing about stores like Marshalls and TJMaxx, in my area (Cherry Hill/Moorestown/Haddonfield, suburbs immediately outside of Philadelphia) these stores are disaster zones. Seriously. It looks like Fallujah after an offensive. I treat it as such too, I go in on a recon mission- look around, scope it out and get out as quickly as I can. I actually have no idea why I keep going back. Mostly, it's because I keep hearing things about NARS palettes and lipgloss sets that some luckly individuals stumbled upon (what incredible finds- that's like seeing treasure washed up on the beach!). Anyways, I wanted to try my luck again. After much digging around (and I mean DIG) this is what I did spot:
-Molton Brown Heavenly Gingerlily Shimmer Oil (Reg $35, spotted it for $19.99)
-Korres Hand Cream (discontinued, I believe- $6)
-Tons of CHI, Biosilk, bigsexyhair products (heavily discounted, seriously don't even go anywhere else to buy it)
I walked out empty handed, because I'm trying to stick to a habit of not buying what I wasn't looking for, but thought I'd give you a good idea at what's in store at the moment. On to the next store! Kmart it is!
Kmart is the only store I know of that actually sells e.l.f. cosmetics. Dollar General does carry e.l.f., but only the tools and brushes. I went in hoping to get a few empty compacts (no such luck) and some single eyeshadows and maybe a few other things. I grabbed the last two eyeshadow singles- Custome Eyes in Pink Ice and Dusk and All Over Color Stick in Pink Lemonade. I have a slight problem with that product being called Pink Lemonade- it's a bright, strawberry pink and I had expected it to be much more mild. I think it stems from the days when I wore Caboodles Lip Jelly Lemonade (do you remember that? It was so wonderful- smelled so good and tasted just like the real thing) and that was a semi transparent baby pink.
Anyways back to the story, disappointed with the lack of e.l.f. Elements compacts, I went to the Dollar Tree with the idea that I could probably make my own in mind. I spotted metal gift card holders. Perfect! I also grabbed a few stackable black mini crates and hauled four Sally Hansen lipglosses. Rumors of these glosses had been the reason why I had initially came to the dollar store and I was happy with the array of colors. I got two Smile Brightening Lip Treatments in Twinkling (dark lavender) and Luminous (dark spicy nude). Also, a Natural Butter Lip Shine Gloss in Bloom (berry) and a Moist & Matte Liquid Color in Charmeuse. This post is getting absurdly long, so I'll talk about those another time.
Here's the good DIY tutorial part:

DIY Freestyle Palettes
Materials:
-Magnets, preferably business card magnets (see pic). These were $7 for a pack of 25.
-Pen or Marker
-Scissors
-Metal gift card holders (Found at craft stores, dollars stores, etc)

1. Flip the metal holder over, and mark out on the business card magnet where you plan to cut it and it it to fit the holder. Round the corners and peal & stick the first magnet.
2. Trim the second one in a similar manner. Use the remnants of the first and second magnet to fill in the remaining gap.
It's a pretty self explanatory process, I have no idea why I decided to write out instructions.
Each one of the metal holders (3" by 5") holds 12 26mm round pans. That's right, 12! Or 4 36mm round pans and 5 26mms. Anyways, you get the idea- it's compact but holds a lot! And pretty too.
The best part? Each metal holder was $1 and two sheets of business card magnets was about $.50. Less than $2? Awesome.

That's all for the night, thanks for bearing with me! <3
