Chanel Joues Contraste #380 So Close

Monday, November 6, 2017
I saw a preview image for the blush from Chanel's 2017 Libre Collection a couple months ago and pretty much made up my mind to purchase it at that moment.  It's been a minute since an interesting color was added to the Joues Contraste line up, this near neon coral shade So Close definitely caught my attention.

The color is such a nice kick when other brands are showcasing their fall and holiday colors. I'd describe the color as near neon red orange, with a touch coral. The pigmentation is good, not startling, which I think makes it easier to wear. So Close has a satin base with super fine golden shimmer that blends out beautifully.

Swatches outside in the sun.

I like the Chanel JC formula a lot. This one has a very fine milled finish, almost melts into the skin as I tap it against my cheeks. I find this color to be super long wearing, once on my cheeks it sits like a stain. My favorite way to apply super intense blushes like So Close is to use the flat side of a squirrel brush, the one I reach for the most is from Laura Mercier.

I like collecting searing blushes, red orange shades in particular.  Here's So Close compared to three other similar shades from my stash. The R&Rs are discontinued, so not sure how much help it is to compare So Close to those shades.

(Indoor lighting) Left to right: Rock & Republic Immoral, Chanel So Close, Rock & Republic All Nighter, Kevyn Aucoin Fira

So Close is like if Immoral and All Nighter had a baby, it contains a slight amount of gold sheened shimmer like All Nighter has, but with Immoral's coral red base. KA Fira looks close in the pan, but is much darker, pigmented, and has a completely different matte finish.

I like super light applications of color when using clown cheek shades like So Close. Just enough to give my cheeks a flush of warmth.

I'm also wearing: Jung Saem Mool Essential Star-Cealer Foundation, Tom Ford Mood Light 01, Benefit Ka-Brow!, Tosowoong Makeon Bronze Spectrum Liner in Tan, Etude House Liquid Lips in OR205 Made in Sweet, Innisfree No Sebum Blur Mineral Loose Powder

Definitely a Chanel JC that I'll treasure for years to come. This is a really fun limited edition shade, definitely one to grab if bright blushes don't scare you!

Chanel #380 So Close is $45 and can be purchased from Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman
