FOTD & EOTD: A Little Bit of Burnished Gold

Hello, everyone!

My posting has been a little less frequent this last week. I was quite busy, spent a weekend doing things I hadn't done in a long time, and trying out some new things as well!
I went rock wall climbing, canoeing and hiking out in the woods in Sandstone, MN. I also got to try a high ropes obstacle course for the first time, which was really exciting. I did not realize how terrified I was of heights...until I was up in the air.

Luckily, I thought ahead and filed my nails down quite a bit so I didn't actually experience any breakage. I don't know what is more amazing, the fact that I thought ahead or the fact that my nails were not utterly destroyed.

Now, here's what I put on my nails just today. It's a color that I picked up from Forever 21 just last week before my trip.

It's called Love & Beauty Safari/Gold. I've always been highly amused by Love & Beauty's simplified names for all the polishes. It is gold shimmer in a smokey translucent base, that ends up looking like a burnished gold. I love how the smokey aspect makes it look olive. This is what I had hoped China Glaze Agro was going to look like.

Coincidentally, I used the same colors for my makeup. I did a sort of winged shadow look.

Shiro Cosmetics The Tributes Collection Review & Swatches

Finally! I couldn't wait any longer to show you these swatches of the new Shiro Cosmetics collection, The Tributes. I couldn't take them outdoors like I had planned, but I hope you enjoy them nonetheless.

Unlike my previous orders it took a bit longer for my package to arrive this time, even though I only ordered this sample set. I placed my order on the 26th of February and it came in the mail on the 15th of March (which is 14 business days). And unlike previous orders, I didn't get an email or Paypal update with a tracking number though I see from the package that there was indeed delivery confirmation used. I guess turn around time is one of the things one must consider when wanting products from indie brands. However, it did come with candy (not that I can eat it, but I can look at it and salivate quite nicely). NARS doesn't give me candy, that's for sure.

There are 12 shades total, take a look! Each shade is swatched twice, the left being over dry, bare skin and the right side applied over a wet base such as Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy or MAC Gel Mixing Medium.

Unforgettable- a russet red with bright sparks
Girl on Fire- a brilliant orange base with glimmering gold
Cornucopia- a fine intense yellow shimmer
Remake- a gilded gold, almost chrome in intensity

Star-Crossed- a rich bark brown with golden shimmer
Beyond the Fence- a mossy green shimmer that melts into woody gold
Huntress- bright silver chrome
Rebellion- the blackest blue shimmer

Ever In Your Favor- a cheery fuchsia pink shimmer
Wildflowers- a dainty faded pink shimmer
Baker's Boy- soft tan with various colored shimmer
Mockingjay- a soft bronze-gold

I did notice that there is a fair number of shades in this collection that are fairly warm. Despite this, I can honestly say that I love each and every color from this collection. I love how well these shadows translate from the book, the colors are exactly what I wanted to see in a Hunger Games themed set. Not only is each individual color very intense, but as a collection the shades are very cohesive.

Here I used Cornucopia on the lid, with Beyond The Fence in the Crease.

I'm not going to lie, I started out buying makeup from Shiro because of the novelty of having Pokemon themed products but I'm extremely pleased that the cosmetics stand out in their own right. It's fantastic to see a company have one after another well rounded, beautiful collections.

EOTD With An Eye Shadow I Made

Hullo! Today I used an eye shadow I made a few years back, when I was really obsessed with making mineral shadows. This one is called 'Poseidon', an overly shimmery sea green that shows up way more blue in these photos. The other two colors I used were Shiro Cosmetics Majora's Mask (the deep indigo with shimmer) and Kokiri Forest (that lovely olive).

My eyelashes are starting to look respectable! Not utterly gorgeous, full and luscious ... but respectable. I'm getting there.

Shiro Cosmetics Sudowoodo Shadow EOTD + Swatches

In an effort to use all the shadows I've been neglecting, I've been slowly trying to use every one at least once for my EOTDs. Today I rediscovered Shiro Cosmetics Sudowoodo.
In my original assessment of this shade, I thought it was a dusty matte brown with just a hint of olive shimmer. Boy was I wrong!
The more I applied to my eyelid, the more the shadow revealed its true nature. What looked like chocolate powder in the container turned out to be olive, khaki, light brown shimmer all at the same time.

It's a lovely color and it's a team player. Goes well with a variety of earth toned shades.

EOTD: Shiro Cosmetics Magneton

Good Evening!
In yesterday's post, I mentioned that I wanted to use one of my new Shiro colors, Magneton in a EOTD. Being great at following through (joking, I'm honestly quite terrible at following through on ... anything), I actually went ahead and used it today.
The funny thing about Magneton is that though it looks like a dark dust color in the sample bag, and even when swatched I declared it a sparkly smoke shade, it pulled decidedly icy blue on my lids! That was certainly something I wasn't expecting. Go on, take a look at yesterday's swatches here and compare.

Today I was able to appreciate all the multicolored sparks in Magneton that I overlooked yesterday. Hey, when you have an armful of glittery shadow swatches, you're bound to miss some things.

Hello Readers!
This is from a recent (ok, I actually ordered way back in December but one thing led to another and I finally took swatch pictures this week) Shiro Cosmetics order.
I ordered a few mini sizes of the shades that were recommended to me recently. Now I love the ample amount included but it drives me nuts how tightly it's packed into the little screw top containers. I can't get any shadow out from under the sifter, I wonder if it's something that happens while in transit? No biggie, I just have to order a bunch of jars with the clamshell style lid from TKB next time I have chance and repackage them myself.

Swathed on dry, bare skin. Outdoors, no flash.

Back to the point, I swatched some of shadows plus one of the free samples in sunlight.
Temple of Time is a soft, sparkle filled ash color.
Master Sword is a HOLY SPARKLE SAUCE champagne with glitter.
Midna is an absolutely delightful light charcoal.
Veran is a navy with multicolored sparkle.
Magneton is a sheer, light smoke shimmer.
Gannondorf is a stunning black matte base with fine red glitter.
I couldn't possibly pick a favorite out of this bunch, they were all wonderful. I was really impressed with Gannondorf, it's not a super complicated color but it sure packs a statement (it's like the shadow version of China Glaze Lubu Heels!). At first, when I looked at Magneton in the baggie, I thought it looked like something that came out of my vacuum cleaner because it was such a dusty looking shade (I kid, I kid, with all the wonderful creations over at Shiro, Caitlin would never resort to sending dust bunnies!) but it came out so beautiful and delicate, like plumes of smoke blown into a bowl of crystals. I can't wait to wear Magneton as an all over shade for a simple EOTD.

Are they all gorgeous colors? Oh yes.
Do I wish I had about four more pairs of eyes just so I could wear all of Shiro's colors at once? Most definitely.

Shiro Cosmetics Review & Swatches

When I saw Sirvanya's video review on Shiro Cosmetics and she mentioned that one of the collections was Pokémon themed, I freaked out a little on the inside. "Mimi," I thought to myself, "why didn't you know about this sooner?" Most of my 3rd grade after school hours were spent cramming in as many Pokemon episodes as possible, I had so many Pokemon cards too! Not to mention how near and dear to my heart the Pokemon Silver game for Gameboy was (good times, I should find my Gameboy and see if it still works). Anways, I hopped right over to the Shiro site (which is kind of a work in progress at the moment) and ordered a few samples and a mini sized shadow.

It was pretty much the greatest moment of my life when I got my first order, followed shortly by the worst moment when I accidentally left it within reach of Sir Nigel and he chomped up the padded envelope my package was in (don't worry, he didn't ingest anything, just managed to destroy it). Luckily, I was able to salvage a mini sized S.S. Anne. Does anyone else see the irony of the dog, that I cut into my makeup budget to adopt, eating my makeup? I do. Well, he does have great taste in cosmetics!

Back to the makeup- I made a second order, this time five mini jars. To clarify, Shiro Cosmetics has loose shadows that come in three sizes, 1/4 teaspoon in baggies ($1), 3gram jars packed full of product ($3) and full 5gram jars ($5). These five Pokemon shadows were so great, that I ordered another five from the Legends collection!

Here's some swatches, all taken out doors with no flash:

SS Anne is a very soft golden beige shimmer packed with sparkles
Charmander is a high shimmer yellow orange
Sudowoodo is a woody brown shimmer with a hint of... olive?
Weepinbell is a yellow high shimmer with a tinge of lime
Poliwrath is navy blue packed with dimensional multicolored sparkles
Rattata is a striking purple with sparkles

Legend Collection

Moosh is a cerulean blue with multicolored sparkles
Ocarina is an icy light blue high shimmer
Farore's Wind is a minty high shimmer
Link is a leafy rich green with sparkles (my favorite!)
Rupee is a yellow green shimmer
Kokiri Forest is an olive shimmer

Legend Collection

Subrosia is a satin brick shade with a touch of sparkle
Hearts is a vibrant red with shimmer
Majora's Mask is a medium indigo with multicolored sparkles

The colors I like the most are the bright POW! ones, like Hearts, Moosh, Rattata and Link.
The thing that I like about Shiro shadows is the vibrancy of the pigments, the smoothness (both of the shadow texture itself and the blending quality) and their lasting power on my lids. They lasted all day long on me, over Urban Decay Primer Potion. One thing that I did notice was that they liked to be first chair, not second fiddle. Meaning, if I applied any of the shadows on top of another shadow (for instance, I tried using Rattata over Rock & Republic Paranoid shadow), it would fade really quickly. Stick it directly over the primer though, and you should have no problems.
Should you buy these? Heck yes! I high recommend getting either a whole bunch of mini sized or sample sized (if you don't mind baggies) to try a whole array of colors. The mini sized were generously portioned (actually, packed with so much product that it was hard to get out! Had to remove the sifter), shipping was very reasonable ($2.50, if I remember correctly)so you really can't go wrong. I absolutely can't wait to order more and for future geeky themed collections. If there ever was a World of Warcraft set, I'd probably wet myself!
