Nubar Spring in the City Collection: Swatches & Review

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Hello! On a happier note, today I have a gorgeous spring collection to show you.

I immediately loved the Nubar Spring in the City Collection as soon as it arrived at my door. The colors are interesting and compliment each other quite well. There are eight shades total, all creme finish.

Fashion is Forward. Two coats. A cool navy grey shade.

New Mood. Four thin coats. A muted pastel purple, with cool undertones.

Succulent. Three coats. A bright neon coral pastel. Hard to capture, it's more vivid in real life.

Dreamy Moss. Three coats. A minty aqua shade, on the softer, muted side.

Wildflower Blooming. Three coats. More peachy orange than Succulent, a similar neon pastel.

Spring in Her Step. Three coats. A sort of 70's pink. Not shocking but still stands out.

Sleek in the City. Three coats. A really great unusual color! A mauve shade that reminds me of red mung bean paste inside mochi.

City Self. Three coats. Light pastel purple, warmer than New Mood.

One thing that I have to point out that you may have noticed is that the pigments settle a bit in quite a few of these shades. Four of the shades have whiteish pigment at the bottom (Spring in Her Step, Sleek in the City, City Self, Fashion is Forward). If you're intent on shaking the bottle until they fully mix, you'll be at it for a while. The bit of white doesn't really change the shade too much, other than it looking perhaps a bit darker than intended. The two neon pastel shades, Succulent and Wildflower Blooming have the opposite problem; the neon pigments seem to be sinking. They look lighter than intended.

Formula was pretty good on the whole, though definitely pair these with a good base like Nubar Foundation. I used another one just for quick swatching and they popped right off my nail.

I really adore these colors. I've already done two manicures featuring some of the shades.
This is my first successful splatter manicure, featuring Fashion is Forward, Dreamy Moss and New Mood. Topped off with Nubar Matt.

Here we have my first stamping decal. I used New Mood, Dreamy Moss, Succulent plus XL C stamping plate along with black and white cremes.

The colors are interesting, not tired in the least bit. I like that while there are pastel shades, they're re-imagined, not the same boring pastels that resurface every spring.

Nubar is Big-3 free and vegan! Nubar shades can be purchased here. This collection isn't available quite yet, but you can bet it'll be on the website shorty.

Nubar Wild West Collection

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Hi folks!

Today I'm have Nubar's fall/winter collection to share with you. It's called Wild West and it is made up of shimmers, a frosty chrome and cremes with hidden shimmer. The colors are definitely reminiscent of the old Wild West; of cowboys, cattle, cacti, mesas and dusty sunsets.

Paint Pony. A medium tan with fine red hidden shimmer.

Never Take Off The Mask. A deep maroon brown with fine gold sparkle.

Brothel. A slightly dusty red  with warm shimmer that is a bit duochrome, flashes red to orange.

Go Native. A dark burnt orange shade with the same fine red shimmer that is a bit duochrome.

Cactus. A grass green shade loaded with gold shimmer.

Texas Sky. A deep indigo blue with blue and pink shimmer.

Hi-Ho Silver. A super frosty white silver color. The brushstrokes are very visible. I think this one is pigmented enough for stamping, which might redeem it slightly in my eyes.

Spirit Walker. An off white creme with that same red shimmer. It's not really visible on the nails (and in credibly hard to see in the bottle).

The formulas were good, with the exception of Spirit Walker which was a bit streaky. I liked unusual red shimmer that was in quite a few of these shades but I really wish it was more prominent. These colors definitely represent the theme of the collection quite well. My favorite is Cactus followed by Texas Sky (which I think would look phenomenal with a color shifting pigment polish on top) and Go Native.

Nubar polishes are Big 3 free. They are available for $8 each on the Nubar website.

Nubar Eden Collection

Saturday, August 31, 2013
Nubar is one of my favorite brands. Though sometimes hard to find (I usually resort to ordering online but I have spotted them at some independent beauty supply stores), they fulfill an interesting niche of the polish market; all sorts of interesting and unique shades that other brands don't seem to carry. Today I'm showing you the new Eden Collection.

There are eight shades in a whole range of finishes. We have cremes, shimmers, and some frost/glitters.
Tulips to Kiss You With. Three coats. A sheer but "fluffy" hot pink with fine shimmer. I know "fluffy" isn't an adjective commonly used with polish but the formula was a bit voluminous. Three coats.

A-Peel-ing. Three coats. A squishy looking orange with shimmer. The shimmer is more subtle on the nail, but it's still rather pretty.

Dahlia Up Later. Three coats. A frosty pink with holo glitter. Frosts + glitter aren't really my thing, but application was good.

Moss Mistress. My favorite out of the collection, actually. Three coats. An odd yellow green creme. I think that this is one of those shades that people tend to call "interesting" rather than pretty or beautiful but I love it!

Wild Blue Yonder. Three coats. A super frosty blue with gold with holo glitter. It's not physically bumpy, the glitter just looks like it has texture. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Rockin' the Garden. Three coats. Another favorite. This has a not quite sheer, not quite jelly yet still a tinge bit of transparency that really makes it look delicate. It's a soft blue shade with really gorgeous shimmer. The shimmer looks full on blue at some angles and more teal at others.

Dare You to Dragonfly. Two coats. A really nice light teal creme.

Calla Lilly Caramel. Three coats. Another oddity; a sheer warm beige-y tan with gorgeous red shimmer. Strange but just really pretty.

All in all, the formulas were good (though Tulips to Kiss You With was a bit weird and fluffy). One thing that I noticed was that a few brushes had one hair that was just haywire, but it didn't bother me much (I just used the other side of the brush).

Shades from The Eden Collection can be purchased for $8 each on the Nubar website. Nubar polishes are high quality, Big-3 Free as well as cruelty free and vegan.

Which of these shades do you like the best?

CosmoProf North American 2013 Recap, Part II

Saturday, July 20, 2013
Good evening! Tonight's post is part II of my CosmoProf North America recap. Let's start off with a bang, shall we? The China Glaze booth was incredibly crowded because everyone was buzzing about the unveiling of Geláze, the new line of gel polishes!
China Glaze has taken 36 very popular shades and created their own gel system, complete with different gel bases for various types of nails, prep and removal products and an LED light.
A smaller consumer size will be available at Sally Beauty Supply as soon as August. Thrilling right? I am so bad at changing pedicure colors, now I'll be able to have Flip Flop Fantasy on my toes for weeks at a time.

Here's a look at China Glaze's upcoming collection called On the Horizon. Feather glitter! Personally I'm crazy for this stuff because I happen to like bar glitter (so long as it is not the wide chunky kind). I have other pictures and information on other collections too, but can't reveal them until it gets closer to their arrival dates, stay tuned for that!
Let's talk Seche for a moment. Seche Vite is still my go-to top coat for speedy manicures and I go through bottles of it every year just swatching polishes. Recently they have expanded to include polish line and now there will be a full line of creme shades. These are all supposed to be one coaters, which I find really exciting.

The fall Seche collection is called Clever and Confident. I really like how the shades look together, I can't wait to try them to see if they really are one coaters. Wouldn't that be absolutely great for nail stampers?

One of the brands new to me was No Miss. You might have seen their products in Whole Foods or other natural food stores as their line is very geared towards healthy products. Check out this crazy big chocolate lip balm! It smells just like Tootsie Rolls, ridiculously scrumptious.

I had the pleasure and honor of meeting THE ZOYA! She is really a joy to talk to. Melissa of the Daily Nail, Katherine of Manicure Addict and I chatted with her for two hours about everything from the influence colors can have to India, Russia, China and even yoga and classical music.

It didn't happen... unless you post about it on Instagram, right? Hah!

I already swatched Zoya Fall 2013 Cashmeres yesterday, but check out those Satins.

I felt like it had been a while since Nubar popped up on my radar but they are back at it with a bunch of new collections. Above we have Wild West.
Eden might be the most exciting for me because I love the looks of those cremes. That green! That latte shade! That ORANGE!

Alter Ego, an entire collection of jellies with big opalescent glitter. How did we get so lucky? The golden one up front is really quite beautiful. Actually they all are.

That wraps it up for today! Come visit again tomorrow for the last official part of the recap and on Monday I'll have pictures of blogger/indie brand meetups.

What new collection excites you the most out of the ones I've shown you today?

Nubar Wildfire

Friday, August 24, 2012

Looking back through my files, I found a bunch of polishes I bought a long time ago but forgot to share. Whoops! I have a pretty big backlog, so I'm going to try to work through some of them while I'm on vacation. This is Nubar Wildfire, aka possibly one of the most unique polishes I have ever seen.

Nubar is quickly becoming one of my favorite brands with polishes that are really unusual. Wildlife has a spring green base, with firey orange- copper shimmer. The overall effect is a stunning and completely unique duochrome.

This is one of the few polishes that I when I wear, I wear for a few days at a time so that I can gaze at the marvelous color combination. It's definitely a polish worth having! I bought mine on eBay with rewards dollars, but I remember it being around $7 originally. I don't really see many listings for it on eBay or Amazon any more, so if you ever see it- I recommend snatching it up!

**This is an automated post, I'm on vacation for a few days. It make take me a bit to read and respond to your comments, thank you for your patience!**
