Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Crush

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

So I've been in the market for a pinky nude matte liquid lipstick the past few months. I tried quite a few that didn't fit the bill - [CLIO] Chesire (review here) Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in Amoureux quickly turned orange on me and Clinique Pop Liquid Matte in Cake Pop.... well, it never dried and was still glossy like a sticky lipgloss a half an hour later (see below). I swatched a few shades at the department store and ended up bringing home Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstck in Crush

This is my first lip product from ABH, and I was a bit apprehensive at the store while playing with the tester. You see, the stopper in the tube is a bit bigger than the wand and it lets quite a bit of product out. The tester in store was absolutely just oozing with liquid lipstick, leaking all over the place even tightly shut.

Oh but I love the color and the formula! It's just the pinky nude that I was looking for, a 'my lips but better' sort of shade.  Formula wise, I find it to grip my lips better than Australis Velourlips and very close to Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks (which I have reviewed herehere and here). What I like about the ABH formula is that you can apply lip balm over it (or a bit under it) and it will still look quite good. Moisturized lips that are matte too? Who am I, Liz Lemon, trying to have it all?

Left, blended with finger tip and right, applied straight out of the tube with the wand.

So with this color, as with KVD Lolita, I've been applying with my finger tip for a fuzzier, more forgiving lip line. I think that this flatters lips like mine that are uneven. With colors like bold red and purple, I'll take the time to line my lips and 'clean up' with concealer but I really like the softer look for colors like Crush.

The loose stopper definitely is an issue. Here's my tube of Crush, two weeks after opening. I've used this about 7-8 times and kept it in my purse. It's already starting to get all over the place.  ABH Liquid Lipsticks, can't take you anywhere.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks are $20 and can be found at Sephora, Macy's or Ulta.

Outside of the crappier packaging, they are pretty interchangeable with the KVD Everlasting lipsticks.

Which by the way, have you seen the limited edition set of deluxe sized lipsticks? I've been mulling that set over for a while, come F&F time it will be hard to resist!
