Monday, December 22, 2014

Happy Monday!

I have something a little different for you guys today. Allison of the indie brand Nail Pattern Boldness has written a book entirely about polish and I finally got my mitts on a copy. A book entirely about polish and sparkly things? Now there's a page turner. Homemade Nail Polish: Create Unique Colors and Designs for Stunning Nails is just under a hundred pages chock full of polish related information and ideas.

Nail Pattern Boldness A Parliament of Magpies, Pt. 1

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Good evening! I've been sitting on these wonderful new Nail Pattern Boldness shades for a month now, trying to get the swatches to turn out exactly how I wanted them to look. There are 12 shades in the new A Parliament of Magpies Collection and they are so very wonderfully sparkly that they'll bring out anyone's inner magpie.

I've broken it down to three posts. Today we'll be looking at Lucky, Chatty, Covetous and Lusty. All of these glitters are small in size and are so dense that they can easily be worn by themselves, in just two generous coats. The following pictures have two coats on the inner fingers and used as accents over black on the outer fingers.

Lucky. A bright green glitter accented by red and gold.

Chatty. A periwinkle accented with fuchsia and purple.

Covetous. A navy accented with yellow and fuchsia glitter.

Lusty. A bright red with copper and black glitter.

All four shades are very densely packed and can be perfectly smooth with one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food and one coat of topcoat. These are really unusual mixes of glitters - I really can't think of any other shades quite like them out there!

Here's a peak at the whole collection:

Nail Pattern Boldness shades can be purchased here. Don't forget, shipping is free over $45, to both US and Canada.

Nail Pattern Boldness Digital Hydration & Digital Flash

Saturday, December 7, 2013

You should know by now that one of my favorite indie brands is Nail Pattern Boldness. Awesomely quirky polishes that are gorgeous and to top it all off, a hilarious name that honestly makes me giggle every time I see it. Now what I think REALLY makes NPB (I'm going to have to abbreviate the name or else I'll giggle to to much to write a proper review) stand apart from other brands is the other nail products offered in addition to color polishes.

Take for instance, Glitter Food. That's a whole other review on its own actually, I could go at length gushing about how much I love Glitter Food. Today we're discussing Digital Hydration and Digital Flash, a brand new base coat and top coat.

Digital Hydration is milky in color. It's a base coat that is both moisturizing and fills ridges. One of the key ingredients is Argan oil. One of the problems I have with my nails is that when they are longer, the free edges can really curl probably due to sheer amount of nail polish changes I do (it's a tough gig, but somebody has to swatch all those pretties). What I really like is that if I notice any curling, I'll apply a coat of Digital Hydration before bed and by the time I wake up, they've relaxed back into their less curved state. It has some serious moisturizing powers.

Digital Flash is a quick dry top coat. I think it's a great option for those of you who may become frustrated with the ever popular Seche Vite. I've been using this for all my "real" manicures for the last month and I'm really impressed. It dries a smidge slower than SV; a difference of about 30 seconds longer to get to the stage where the polish is touchable but still able to be dented. It takes about as much time as Sally Hansen Insta Dri and  much faster than Essie Good To Go! or Barielle Ultra Speed Dry Manicure Extender. I like that when you're half way through the bottle, while it does thicken a bit it is no where near as bad as Seche Vite. Good stuff.

Here's a before and after of Digital Flash, to show you what a mighty fine shine it gives manicures.

 Before

After

One last thing I'd like to mention is the brush. Both Digital Flash and Digital Hydration have a nice long supple brush that is really nice and long. It reaches to the very bottom of the bottle ensuring that you get every last drop.

I definitely recommend both Digital Hydration and Digital Flash. They are both great products to add to any polish lover's manicure arsenal.

Digital Hydration and Digital Flash are $8 each and can be purchased here, through the new Nail Pattern Boldness store

Nail Pattern Boldness Howl and the Anti Cries (Halloween 2013)

Friday, October 4, 2013

It's October and I can barely contain my excitement for all the Halloween polishes I've been swatching recently. This is without a doubt my favorite holiday and nothing comes close to the happiness I feel wearing Halloween polish! Tonight I have the 2013 Nail Pattern Boldness Halloween Collection - Howl and the Anti Cries as well as a flashback to a shade from last year that is making a comeback.

First up we have Witch Queen; a clear glitter topper with blue, purple, yellow and hints of brown and green metallic glitter. This shade transcends Halloween and would look good anytime of the year! Above, I have one coat over Color Club Wild Child. Also I have it over black creme then topped off with matte top coat. Both look quite striking in their own way.

Vincent Price is Right. Photographing this polish will be the bane of my existence, I tell you. It's stunning and so hard to capture. It's a black base with these almost iridescent blue-purple hexes with tiny multicolored glitter winking at you in the background. A real stunner. Here, I've worn three thin coats.

Frankenpussy. A clear base but very dense with orange, yellow and purple micro glitter. Here I've worn one coat over American Apparel Lopez Canyon. If worn by itself I'd estimate it'd be opaque in two, three at the most coats.

I'm Your Boogie Man. There are no words to describe how juicy and ripe this polish is. It's a vibrant almost hot red orange jelly. Pictured is three coats with topcoat. It's sizzling!

Bitches' Brew. This was a Halloween shade from last year, made available again. This is one of my all time favorite polishes ever, not just among my cherished Halloween shades. Orange, yellow, blue and purple glitter makes up this stunning glitter topper. Pictured is over Essie Luxedo.

All of these shades were just really absolutely gorgeous and packed with glitter. Nail Pattern Boldness polishes are available here, on the brand new website. Guess what? The new website now has free shipping for orders over $45 for US and Canada orders! Rejoice!

Which is your favorite? Did you order any Halloween polishes yet this year?

Nail Pattern Boldness Sir Cumference And The Quadrilaterals

Tuesday, May 7, 2013
When I first saw a picture of Sir Cumference And The Quadrilaterals (hence forth abbreviated as SCATQ) on the Nail Patter Boldness Instagram account, I immediately fell in love.

How could anyone not love SCATQ? There's round glitter in two sizes and three colors; magenta, teal and pink. There are also soft, dainty white squares that have almost a translucent quality to them. Above, I'm wearing it over American Apparel Redondo Beach.

Of course, I also had to wear it over black to make the dots pop.

Then I slapped on a matte top coat (OCC Flatline) just out of curiosity.

The glitter is very dense. Shown in all of the pictures is just one coat, no fishing required. You will have to poke the brush around to get the glitter to lay where you want it to go. I applied one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food on top before using any top coats, not because SCATQ was top coat hungry, but because I wanted it to be perfectly smooth before mattifying it.

This is an LE polish, stocked by Shoppe Eclecticco but currently sold out. Be sure to follow Nail Pattern Boldness on Facebook and Instagram (@nailpatternboldness) for the latest updates.

Thank you so much, Allison for this beauty!

Nail Pattern Boldness Inner Beauty is For Amateurs

Friday, April 26, 2013
Let me tell you what happens when you get mail from Allison of Nail Pattern Boldness. You run back to your houses, clutching the package to your chest. You cut across the grass instead of sticking to the sidewalk in your extreme haste. You leap leap over the neighbor's cat (ok, not really... I stopped to pet the little guy) and barrel through your door. You skid to a halt in front of the drawer which houses your scissors. You squeal a bit when you see the magical contents.

And then you apply Inner Beauty is For Amateurs. It's a superbly pigmented primary red jelly with pale blue opalescent glitter and (what I think is) fine gold holo sparkle. You apply two coats, possibly three depending on your preference. You then admire your nails for hours upon hours.

Seriously, how gorgeous is this polish? The red is so bold, so squishy looking. I don't wear red nails often but this is so alluring. I bet if the Sirens wore nail polish while trying to lure sailors to their deaths, it'd be Inner Beauty is For Amateurs. The glitter is also much more evident in person. It looks like a soft twinkle in my photos, but it just glows like crazy. The formula applies like the polish is gel, you may want to add a few drops of thinner like I did to make it flow a bit more easily.

Inner Beauty is For Amateurs is $9 and can be purchased through the NPB Etsy shop (here) or Llarowe. Be sure to follow Nail Pattern Boldness on Facebook and Instagram (@nailpatternboldness).

Nail Pattern Boldness Halloween 2012: Witch Pit

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Hi folks!
Halloween is fast approaching, and I can practically taste the forbidden chocolate in my mouth already (unfortunately, I need to have a low sugar diet year round, but I know I'll steal a piece or two!). Want to see one of my new favorite Halloween polishes?

Witch Pit by Nail Pattern Boldness! Teal and black micro bar glitter (the thinnest, hairy kind) in a clear base. I know. Hair glitter is split down the line; usually you love it or you hate it. I love it EXTRA hard.

I wore it here over a black creme. Hairy bar glitter can be really tricky to apply out of all the different kinds of glitter, I find that where other glitters lay flat on the nail, this sort of glitter sort of wants to go in all directions (similar to a bad hair day). For me, I find that adding couple of drops of polish thinner to any bar glitter right before I use it to ensures that it is very fluid and easy to apply.

I used one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food on top, followed by a quick dry top coat.

You can buy Nail Pattern Boldness polishes on Llarowe or on the Nail Pattern Boldness Etsy page.

Bar glitter- how do you feel about it?

Nail Pattern Boldness Halloween 2012: Bitches Brew

Saturday, September 29, 2012

A few weeks ago, I saw that Nail Pattern Boldness post a picture on Facebook of a new Halloween polish. Bitches Brew.

By golly, I had to have it.

Well, that presented me with a problem. I was supposed to be at a meeting at school at 3p.m.
I KNEW that this Halloween polish had to be mine. So what did I do? I had my tablet in my lap, slyly ordering polishes during the meeting. It's fine, those other fellows didn't even notice. They were too busy arguing over what project we were going to do for this semester.

Bitches Brew is a clear base with a smorgasbord of metallic glitters. Orange, purple, yellow, even a hint of blue in every shape and size. Here, I layered it over black, smoothed it out with one coat of NPB Glitter Food and topped it off with a quick dry topcoat.

I do wish that there was a tad bit more of the yellow bar glitter. It's just such a nice touch- I see a few sprigs of it in the bottle but haven't actually had any show up on my nails when I apply it. Overall, this polish makes me so absolutely excited for Halloween. I've actually already worn this polish THREE times in the last few weeks! You don't know how rare that is for me. It's not uncommon for me to ignore a polish for half a year at a time.

As soon as Bitches Brew is available, you should definitely pick up a bottle. You can buy NPB polishes on Etsy or on Llarowe.

Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard

Saturday, September 15, 2012

Recently, I made an order from Nail Pattern Boldness and over joyed when it arrived just a few days later. I'm such a big fan of NPB polishes, you have no idea. My experience with Nail Pattern Boldness has been similar to crack (or so I presume)- once you get your first taste, you'll keep going back for more. Allison is now my glitter dealer and I mean that in the best possible way.

Flipping Out Hard. I've been waiting for this one to restock- I wanted this one as soon as I saw it. Matte yellow-green and blue neon glitter, in a slightly neon (lime-ish? I'm making up words now, pretty tired) base. Here, I'm wearing two coats of it over one coat of China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise as the underwear. Topped with one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food (highly, highly recommend this!) and a coat of Barielle Ultra Speed Dry Manicure Extender.

I posted pictures of this one on Instagram and quite a few people people commented how it reminded them of the infamous Floam by Nail-Venturous (now produced by Ninja Polish). To be honest, I have no idea since I don't own Floam but judging by the pictures I've seen of it,  it looks like a different ratio of colors (if they are even in fact, the same colors/shapes/size of glitter. I have no clue).

I love this so much. Eye searing neon glitters, really densely packed. Later this week I'll show you other polishes that were in the same order but I'm already convinced that I need another fix soon- I have my eye on Madam Rose!

Nail Pattern Boldness is sold on Etsy, check out the Facebook page for the newest updates on polish restock times.

A Couple Gorgeous Polishes by Nail Pattern Boldness

Tuesday, August 28, 2012
A while back, I was give a couple mini bottles of polish from Allison of Nail Pattern Boldness.

I was very intrigued to find out that unlike most indie polish makers or those dabbling with frankens (like myself), Allison formulates her own suspension base, isn't that remarkable? I hold those who make things from scratch in the highest esteem, much like those who make their food from scratch or artists that write their own lyrics.

Le Big Party. You know how clowns do that trick where they stuff themselves into a mini car? Imagine that trick gone horribly wrong, and somehow the car exploded. Captured here in liquid form, is basically essence of circus clown. I could stare all day at this polish and understand it fully. It wasn't until I photographed the bottle and zoomed in to like 300x did I realize how exceptional this is! Micro round and square matte glitters, in every color- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple in a clear base. It's also densely packed, one coat here over a blue base of Revlon Royal.

Seppuku (With a Frisbee). A gorgeous mixture of warm matte glitters in a red-orange base. If Le Big Party is liquid clown then this one is liquid sun, embodying pure warmth and energy. Worn here over Essie Lollipop, one coat.

Sigh. Such gorgeous polishes.

Check out the Nail Pattern Boldness on Facebook HERE and the Etsy store HERE. I myself will be stalking it, hoping to get my hands on a bottle of Flipping Out Hard. I need this eye searing neon matte glitter in my life!
