Leonie Blackhead Removing Peel-Off Mask

Thursday, August 1, 2013
Good evening! I think I've mentioned in the past how much I absolutely love peel off products, right? It triggers a total flashback to when I was in kindergarten and let glue dry on my hands just so I could peel it off. But I digress. Tonight I'm reviewing a product by Leonie, the Blackhead Removing Peel-Off Mask.

The mask is black in color (because of the activated charcoal) and feels nice and cool once you've applied it. It smells a bit like herbs and a bit like alcohol (though alcohol is not one of the ingredients).

Here's the ingredients: (I put in bold parenthesis what the fancy names actually mean.)

Aqua, Glycerin (Humectant), Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Panthothenic Acid (Vitamin B5), Calendula Officinalis (Marigold) Extract, Citrus Species Peel Extract, Citrus Grandis (Pomelo) Fruit Extract, Retinol (Vitamin A), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Activated Carbon, Methylparaben

I was quite pleased with the ingredients. They are all plant and mineral based so completely vegan friendly as well as cruelty free.

This mask was just great. It left my skin really smooth but not dried out, and my pores look nice and tight (if only temporarily). It didn't make me break out nor did I experience any irritation even though my skin is crazy sensitive (especially to citrus oils). Best of all, I like how fast it dries. When just applied on my nose, it was completely dry and ready to peel in under 10 minutes (even though the website promises 15). For a full face mask, which I did once just for kicks, it took about 30 min to dry. Since I don't have blackheads, I can't attest to how well it removes those, but it was definitely effective at pulling out the large sebum plugs that I have.

The mask also peeled really easily, I managed to peel off the whole thing in one sheet. If you used it to spot treat your tzone, I estimate that you could easily get at least a couple dozen applications out of one bottle.

I've tried other black masks such as the Boscia as well as the cheaper Daiso but I prefer this one because of how fast it dries. With the other two, I would have to wait at least 40 minutes for it to be completely dry. I would start peeling it off only to find that it was still too soggy in the nose crease area to be pulled off.

Retail pricing is $28 for a 100ml but it is on sale right now for $17. You can purchased it directly from Leonie or order it off of Amazon.

Do you have a favorite peel off mask?
