Viseart Warm Matte Palette

Monday, January 16, 2017

A buddy of mine sent me a screenshot of the new Viseart Warm Matte (10) palette at the beginning of my vacation and it took me about five very tense seconds to decide that I was going to order this palette. I loved it on first sight.

One Heck Of A Workhorse: Viseart 01 Neutral Matte Palette

Monday, November 7, 2016

Hey, remember how I'm on the lookout for a matte palette since I dropped my custom palette and shattered a lot of my neutral pans? I ordered Viseart Neutral Matte Palette 01 after much hemming and hawing.

LORAC 3D Multiplex Eye Shadow Palette

Sunday, November 27, 2011
Hi you guys! I'm back from my 'vacation' and I'll be responding to all the comments on my scheduled posts soon.
A few weeks ago, HauteLook had a sale on LORAC products that I was really excited about. I had hoped to see a certain palette and lo and behold- it was on sale! For $12 I was able to score the LORAC 3D Multiplex Eye Shadow Palette that I had craved greatly earlier this year.
I love the small efficient shape of LORAC palettes, and this one was made even cooler by having holographic snakeskin print covering it.
The six colors are a rather unique set, I haven't really seen anything else like this before.
From left to right:
A soft yellow chiffon shade, with a bit of pinky opalescence.
Rich golden bronze metallic.
Red-brown duochrome, that flashes green.
A foil-like silver shade.
A dark metallic blue.
Black matte with multi-colored sparks.

The shadows are very interesting. I love LORAC shadows, but it seems they never use they same formula, they're always changing and I never know what to expect. The single shadows are incredible, especially the mattes but the Private Affair palette was rather 'dusty' feeling. Now this palette is fantastic. All the shadows are super soft and fluffy. Calling them buttery would be an insult, they are more like mousse or whipped cream. They are very nice to work with.

All in all, a fantastic set of shadows. There are so many ways I could use this palette, I've only begone to think of combinations that would look pretty. I think a lot of these shades would also make great supporting colors to other shadows I already own as well.

Do you own any LORAC shadows? What did you think of them?

New Wet'n'Wild I ❤ Matte Palette

Sunday, October 23, 2011
Good afternoon! Today I went on an adventure with a friend. We went to six different drug stores in search of limited edition Wet'n'Wild products. Nutty, yes. Successful? Also yes.
Behold! The fruit of my laborious journey! The new Wet'n'Wild I [Heart] Matte palette.

Let's let the swatches speak for themselves.
All of these are over primer, photo was taken indoors under my light box without flash (not that great of sunlight by the time I got home).

The colors from left to right:
Copy-paper white.
A nude shade (very similar to Brulee single) that closely matches my inner arm skin tone.
Jade green.
Raw sienna/ peachy color.
A bright blue.
A dark maroon tinged brown.
Vivid purple.
Flat black.

They are all finely milled and have a great smooth texture, with respectable pigmentation. All of the shades really adhered well to my skin as I was swatching. I'm impressed by this palette because I think the jade green, the interesting orange-peachy color and the purple are not common drugstore shades. I would have paid $5 for the green shade alone, it's just an absolutely lovely color.
I also appreciate the quality white, nude, dark brown and black. Though I may have these colors already elsewhere in my stash, any makeup lover knows how important these staple shades are to enhance a variety of looks.
In short, this a fabulous palette. There's bright colors right alongside classic neutrals and all the shadows have a great consistency. I would highly recommend picking one up if you see it at Walgreens.

Note: This week all Wet'n'Wild is B1GO 1/2 off, including the 8 pan palettes. Make good use of this sale!

Have you seen this palette yet in person? Will you be buying it if you do?

Love,
-Mimi

EOTD: Using Wet'n'Wild Night Elf Palette's Red

Monday, November 15, 2010
I always feared and admired red eyeshadow. So bold, yet it can so very easily go from Pow! to Look, I Have Severe Pink Eye, Please Don't Come Near. Now I think I have finally mastered (ok, finally attempted a look with it that didn't fail super hard), with much thanks to my Wet'n'Wild Night Elf Palette. This palette, (reviewed here) contains a beautiful vivid crimson shade, the likes of which have never graced drugstores before.
I think the trick was to make the red appear less pink and more vampy, if that makes any sense and to give the eyeball a definitive boundary (in other words, throw down the welcome rug for the black eyeliner) where ever red shadow is used so that the eye looks bright, not irritated and diseased.

For this look, I used:
Brows: Maybelline Define A Brow
Eyes: UDPP, Wet'n'Wild Night Elf Palette (tan, silver, black and red shades), MAC Blacktrack Fluidline and NYX Doll Eye Long Lash Mascara

Have you tried red eyeshadow before? Or is it a bit too much for you? How about vivid red blush- like NARS Exhibit A? Or scarlet lipstick?

All products mentioned were purchased by me, for my own use.

Sleek iDivine Storm Palette

Monday, November 8, 2010
This is another item that was in my swap package (remember how I wrote about I swapped with Jess of Blogger Fae Glasgae?). Sleek palettes get a lot of love on MakeupAlley, but for the last year, I didn't give them a second glance because... their waffling patterns aren't aligned. Take a closer look at the picture to the left to see what I mean.
Isn't it absurd that this was my only objection, the only thing holding me back? Yes, I know- but I'm picky about packaging and product orientation like that- when ever I saw a picture of a Sleek palette, I wanted to rip out the shadows and glue them back in properly.
Well I finally got over my stupid reason for not getting a Sleek iDivine palette, and am I glad that I did! Each palette contains 12 shadows about the size of a nickle, a mirror built into the case and a long, double ended, sponge tip applicator. I picked Storm because it contained a lot of shades that I like- dark jewel tones with some neutrals. The pigmentation is incredible in these palettes! There's three matte shades and all the rest are high frost/metallic, and every shadow in Storm is super rich in color.
As always, click to enlarge!
Swatch pictures taken outside, direct sunlight, no flash
Everything is swatched over bare skin because the pigmentation is nice enough that I didn't feel the need to do it over primer.
Top Row (warm colors), left to right: a soft metallic golden beige, a frosty vanilla, a matte medium beige, a metallic yellow gold, a frosty pink and a metallic burgundy.
Bottom Row (cool colors), left to right: a coppery metallic brown, a metallic blue-charcoal, a dark metallic green, a metallic blackened indigo, a matte medium brown and a matte black.
You could do so many looks with this palette, my mind can't even fathom all the capabilities. The only problem I'd have with this palette is that the metallic shades can get a little crumbly when applying- especially with loose fluffy eyeshadow brushes. I really have to use a patting motion with these shadows to keep fallout from dusting my cheeks. Using the applicators helps too. But, for $10 (US dollars) I'm not really complaining too loudly.
People who aren't super fond of high frost might not want this palette- that's kind of the appeal of Storm, mixed in with a few essential matte shades. For that sort of folk, I'd suggest another Sleek palette instead- that's the great thing about them- there's many to choose from!

Do you have any Sleek Palettes? What do you think of them?

Product was swapped for in an even exchange.

Wet'n'Wild Holiday LE Night Elf Palette + EOTD

Sunday, November 7, 2010
I have my hands on one of the most sought after palettes this coming season. No, it's not $30, $40 or even $50 like some of the palettes you'll find at Sephora. It's only five dollars and it's a true drugstore gem. This season (rather, right now) Wet'n'Wild has four limited edition palettes to celebrate the holidays.
Now, I bought the palette named Night Elf. Now, to be perfectly honest I didn't think this palette was really well coordinated like the other palettes. There's everything from a bright red to a shiny silver and even a brown/green duochrome in there- kind of mismatched. That's ok though, all the colors are of such good quality that I don't even mind. Another thing is that the name, Night Elf seems... odd, for this set of shadows. To be fair, when I think of night elves- my World of Warcraft playing kicks in and I think of a seven foot tall purple Alliance player with long ears that can Shadowmeld, but that really has nothing to do with beauty or anything, and I'm guessing the average eyeshadow wearer doesn't think of that at all.
Back to the palette.

Pictures taken outside, no flash, direct sunlight.
There's a frosty cream shade, a shimmery tan, a reddish brown/green duochrome (supposed MAC Club dupe), a metallic silver, a shimmery bright red and a black with silver sparkles.
So far, I haven't come up with a way to use that awesome red shade or the impressive silver. I did however, use the cream, tan and the Club color in an EOTD a few days ago.

Brows: Maybelline Define A Brow
Eyes: LORAC Behind the Scenes Primer, L'oreal HiP Cream Shadow Paint in Steely, Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil in ME Green, Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Mascara, Wet'n'Wild Night Elf Palette

This palette also comes with a ColorIcon black liner. It's not half bad- super soft and smudgey but at least it doesn't drag on my eye lid like some other waxy liners.
So once again, I want to stress how great a palette this is. All the shades are very pigmented and easy to use. There's a lovely duochrome shade that I'm especially fond of, as well as a stunning red- and good red eye shadows are so hard to find! All this for $4.99. What a steal! Now, I found this palette at Walgreens and I've also seen it at Wegmens (for those of you living on the East Coast area). Definitely pick this palette up or any of the other LE holiday palettes if you get a chance.

Have you seen Night Elf anywhere? Or any of the other palettes? Do you like it?

Cargo Lumières du Monde Holiday Palette

Thursday, October 28, 2010
Cargo comes out with some awesome palettes (remember Hands of Hope and the Runway Palette?) and when I saw this palette at Macy's yesterday, I was thrilled.
My Macy's has a small section near the entrance that contains brands like Urban Decay, Sue Devitt, Stila, Cargo, etc. Anyways, I was walking by this section when I was ambushed- a sales associate proudly brandished the Lumières du Monde palette at me, and initially, I joined in her excitement.
I mean, the palette is beautiful! Eight large pans of shadows imprinted with this intricate design- I was overwhelmed. And in the center, a two layered bronzer/blush thing that just... called to me.

Indoors, under lightbox, flash. All swatched dry, over bare skin.
Left to right: a shimmery teal, a metallic yellow, a bright sparkly blue, a antiqued gold-olive shimmer, a periwinkle shimmer, a matte white, a matte tan, a matte brown with micro glitter. The three swatches on the very right are from top to bottom: the blush, the bronzer and the blush/bronzer mixed together.

However, once I brought it home it was kind of a different story.
The shadow I was looking forward the most- the olive shimmer was chunky and it just did NOT want to stick to my skin (not even wet, primer, base). Other than that- all the other colors were decent (I mean, they're not as finely milled as I like nor very creamy but... they're shadows)  and the blush/bronzer pan was pretty. Also, I wish the palette also wasn't so bulky (it's almost as wide as the drawer in my Helmer in which it lives).
But... I mean it was only $29. Yeah! Not even thirty bucks. Hopefully in the next few days, I'll find a way to make this palette work for me.

So, what do you think about this palette? Are there any other holiday palettes that caught your eye?

LORAC Silver Screen Palette

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Last year, Ulta had a exclusive LORAC palette for the holiday season. I somehow missed it, since I wasn't really into LORAC back then. It was priced at $30 and contained eight eyeshadows, two blushes, a lip gloss and a double ended brush.
I managed to procure (rather, my friend Mae managed to) it last week at the discounted price of only $15. Happiness is mine! I was so excited to get it just because of the many products it contains.
This palette is housed in a soft, kinda slinky silver faux croc skin case with a pretty decent sized mirror on the back of the cover. There's four warm shadows and four shadows that are cooler. None of them are named, so I'll label them and describe them numerically.

I took the swatch pictures after school and the sun was kinda setting. Sorry if they look a little yellow/olive :(

1 is a kinda sheer nude frost (nearly invisible on my arm)
2 is a warm golden shimmer
3 is a rusty shimmer
4 is a dark bark brown with copper and other dimensional sparkle
5 is a white base with sparkle bits
6 is a mauvey purple shimmer
7 is a taupe, brown with silver sparkle
8 is a blue-black with silver sparkle
A is a bright dolly pink blush
B is a soft rose blush
And the gloss is a thicker, very pigmented bright rose.

Now, there is a downside. Everything in this palette is shimmery- everything. I wish they had thrown in a few mattes for variety, especially since LORAC does mattes quite well. Also, I feel like the powder products are a bit drier, much like the most recent Private Affair palette (did you miss it? I reviewed it for KarlaSugar, click  here to read!) and not as creamy as the colors in the Sephora Multiplatinum, Croc, Snake Charmer, Pink Python etc palettes. I also noticed that the colors with bases and added sparkle (like 5 and 8) tended to separate really easy, it wasn't easy to apply them and maintain the sparkle.
Still, the blushes and gloss are pretty nice and surprisingly so is the brush. Usually I just toss brushes that come with palettes away because they're so crummy, but I actually like this one. The bristles are soft but firm enough to work with and the cut is fairly decent- in a pinch you could definitely do a few different eye looks with it.
Overall, not a bad palette (especially not for the price) but this palette doesn't exactly showcase the quality that LORAC products can provide.

Surprise Present: NARS Douceurs De Paris (Pleasures of Paris) Palette

Thursday, August 19, 2010
Mr. MakeupWithdrawal surprised me with a present for no apparent reason- the NARS palette that I had craved greatly! I actually didn't think that it was available anymore, but the 9951 Pleasures of Paris Palette is still on the Saks Fifth Ave site (as some sort of exclusive I guess). His only stipulation is that I'm not allowed to gush about it to him.

Anyways, I was super happy to get because I felt like all the shades were very versatile and very well coordinated. I could pick any 3 shades and create a look out of them, the possibilities are endless!

Left to right: Nepal, Violetta, Demon Lover, Fez, Abyssinia and Cordura.
Nepal is a soft pinky-peachy tan.
Violetta is matte light violet with enough grey and brown in it that it's very neutral.
Demon Lover is a dark, greyed violet matte.
Fez is a shimmery warm brown.
Abyssinia is a vanilla satin, with a bit of frost.
Cordura is a dark cool bark brown with golden micro glitter.

As you can see, a primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion was used here) really intensifies the color. Without it, the colors smolder instead of being vivid. I love how well these shadows blend, really. It's so easy to transition one shadow to another.
I think this palette might be my new "If I was stranded on a island and could only have one palette to beautify me for the rest of my life"-palette (a position previously held by one of my LORAC palettes). I mean, the color combinations you can get with this are so varied, you could use this palette for 99.9% of all occasions.
I'm in love! And I'm quite thankful that Mr. MakeupWithdrawal got this for me, what a lovely gift!
Palette is $55 at Saksfifthavenue.com. Each shadow is 1.4g.
Does anyone else have this palette? Or any of the shades in it?

Product shown was given as a personal gift.

LORAC Pink Python + FOTD

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

By now, my love for LORAC should be apparent. It's my favorite brand of eyeshadows; smooth, soft, finely milled, amazingly pigmented shadows. So as part of celebrating my birthday, I ordered the Pink Python palettte from LORAC's VIP section (clearance in disguise, basically) for $10.99. I think I used my birthday as way too much of an excuse to buy. Alas, the Pink Python is now in my hands and there's nothing I can do about it but eagerly play with the shadows.
It's as lovely as I thought it would be. I had put off buying it because based on pictures, it looks very cool, but swatched on my arm it's not necessarily so. Bronze is most definitely warm, but Enlighten and Moonstone are neutral. South Beach and Desire are most decidedly cool though.
Enlighten is a pearly cream color. Moonstone is a peachy sand shimmer. Bronze is well, bronze with shimmer. South Beach is complex aqua shimmer. Desire, the blush is a shimmery bright, cool pink.
I've noticed that Enlighten and Moonstone are two colors that are frequently repeated in LORAC's palettes. That's a shame, because it keeps me from wanting to buy some of the other palettes, like the Croc.
All the shadows and blush are the great LORAC quality that I'm always gushing about: soft, silky and pigmented. Oh, how did I write this much without mentioning the packaging? It's housed in a iridescent pink faux snake skin palette, a little bigger than a deck of cards. The palette is magnetic with a mirror and the shadows are safely nestled in this foamy black material. The best part: no brushes. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I HATE palettes that come with sponge tipped applicators or terrible little brushes that even my tiny little fingers can't manipulate. Great packaging + great product = perfection. And at the low price of $11, what's not to love?
Here's Pink Python hard at work.
I got really tan! I estimate that I'm at least NC25 now, probably closer to 30. It's raining out, so no natural light for me!
Face: LORAC Pink Python's blush Desire, MUFE HD 117, Monistat Anti Chafe Gel, e.l.f. Complexion Perfection, NARS Concealer Ginger/Custard.
Eyes: UDPP, LORAC Pink Python Palette, Rimmel Max Volume Flash Mascara.
Lips: Nivea Kiss of Moisture balm with a touch of MAC Viva Glam Gaga

Urban Decay Face Case

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

I bought this last week at Ulta (grrr. Before it was available online at UD's site) after I saw pics of it. It's $14 and contains 3 shadows, 1 blush and 3 lipglosses. The case is made out of velvety, rubbery purple plastic and 1.5 times the size of a Blackberry Pearl cellphone. The eyeshadows are three really popular shades: Midnight Cowboy Rides Again (champagne glitter), Grifter (lavender glitter) and Twice Baked (satiny brown with micro glitter). The three glosses are Naked (pink), Love Junkie (sheer dark berry) and Carnie (sheer milky pink with micro glitter). What's nice is that the blush is brand spankin' new, Hookup which is a sheer pinky coral flush.

If glitter isn't your thing, I wouldn't take a second look at this palette. Sure it's cheap, convenient and cute, but it's chock full of glitter. I even tweeted Urban Decay (UrbanDecay411), asking if it's contacts safe but the never got back to me (suuurpise).  The best part of this palette is the lovely blush which despite being sheer is pretty decently pigmented and isn't powdery. That's a big deal to me, because there's nothing worse than a super powdery blush in a palette that ruins the nearby lip glosses by flicking excess powder on to them!
So, what do you think? Gonna get one?

All products shown were purchased by me, for my own use.
